Cheap bank assets underpinned by a growing economy won't go unnoticed and Sabadell are clearly snooping around. And they are unlikely to be hunting alone!

Bank of Ireland has today reported a profit for the first time since the financial crisis in 2008 as new lending grew and it clawed back money set aside previously to cover bad loans.

The bank today posted pre-tax profits of €920m for the year to the end of 2014, compared to a loss of over €0.5 billion in 2013, as it said that all of its divisions were profitable.

A big part of the improved performance was a €1.2 billion fall in the charge the bank had to take for bad loans. Its impairment charge for the year was €840m.

Hopefully we might hit 34c tomorrow although I suspect there may be a pullback later in the day before we see further gains next week. Irrespective of the results tomorrow this is definitely a long term hold for me. The more interesting question is where will we be in 3-5 years? No longer a penny stock and a price quoted back in several euros and not in a few cents. That I am fairly certain of. Good luck to all.
