I presume today's strength has all to do with the pending announcement on Thursday next of the results of stress tests by the ECB

Bank of Ireland will pass with no issues, don't know about the other banks. Shares have been hammered lately only because of the entire stock market being down, a great buying opportunity

This weekend a big event then. Expecting some/quite a lot of spinning in the press this weekend prior to official results after which we fan hopefully put this banking crisis to bed.

Blame the stock market but not such individual shares, going through some wild turbulence but a great time to pick up cheap stocks!! Budget will have no effect, wait for stress test on Oct 26th

Could be to do with Central bank's new proposed guidelines for mortgage approval, shrinking of loan books etc.

Irish Sun Friday 3rd October, 2014

DUBLIN, Ireland - The Minister for Finance Michael Noonan and the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin have published the Exchequer Statement up to the end of the third quarter of 2014.

The Exchequer Statement shows a deficit of 6 billion, an improvement of 2.5 billion on the same period in 2013, when once-off payments are excluded. Total tax revenue is ahead of target while the net voted expenditure outturn is broadly in line with target.

"The policies pursued by government over the past 3 years have resulted in an improving economic environment. The economy is growing, more people are at work, and consumer confidence is rising and this is reflected in today's exchequer figures," Noonan said Thursday. "The increases in VAT and Excise duties which are both up 6.5% respectively on the same period last year, are particularly encouraging. We now enter the final quarter of 2014 in a good position."

Howlin added, "Expenditure continues to be managed in line with profile. At this juncture, three quarters of the way through the year, approximately the same percentage of allocations have been disbursed. This is in line with plans as set out at the beginning of the year."

Well looking at the turn around tonight that ain't gonna happen :-)But from looking at the massive sell off over the last few days which 2 weeks ago was truly unexpected, as such forecasts need to be revised a little, looks like we will probably only get back to 38cents by the stress tests and when they pass, if they pass with flying colours then we could see 50cents by the end of the year12 month target from now would be 1euro
