11/1/2011 21:28 | I'd love to know, one way or another, whether this is going sky high in 2 years or down the pan. I suppose that the fact that nobody knows that causes the share price to sit where it is. I did sit poised over the buy button when they were around 350p for one day back in '09. Chickened out and bought oil instead. Now looking for div income to be able to retire... Can somebody explain how it is possible to reclaim the witholding tax whether in ISA or SIPP? Thanks. I do hold by the way - 83 shares plus 1 from last year's scrip. ;) | ![]() rhubarbe
11/1/2011 13:50 | Hollerich, the thought of trying to read a banks financial sheet in Greek is too dull to consider! I will take your word for it. | ![]() wad collector
11/1/2011 11:41 | There are comparisons with Tullow Oil here when they were buying out Hardman Resources in Uganda. Many were posting that they were daft to save a sinking outfit. Tullow's share price was around £3 at the time. Today it is £13 and still undervalued. I clearly see BNC at a similar stage in their capital advancement. In a couple of years time a share price of £6+ is going to be regarded as a bargain | ![]() acamas
11/1/2011 11:33 | For what its worth which is probably not a lot Hollerich I agree with you. This bank went through the doldrums years ago when the Abbey fiasco occured and a good bank was ruined and in debt. BNC took it over and with some pain it was rebuilt and gone on to strength, the share price reflected this and bounced considerably with time. We are now a very strong bank in a good position who pay a premium dividend unlike most others in almost any market at this time. That said I think we are still a victim of circumstance. Markets are still having fun kicking banking shares no matter what, smell blood with the EU banking crisis and I think this latest poor performance this past week is to do with the attack on Portugal which is ongoing by the rumourmongers in the markets saying they are about to go cap in hand for a bail out like Ireland. Apparently we will know by Wednesday when Portugal issue its new bonds to raise money and we will see if they are up the creek or not. They of course say they are not and to be fair their deficit is only something around 7% of GDP compared to Ireland which was over 30%. But this being one of the dogs of EU and of course right next to Spain and BNC being associated with both I think has something to do with current share price movements with people being edgy. Would you agree Holler ? | fubaratbirth
11/1/2011 10:17 | i just cannot believe some stuff that is been posted here, suggesting that bnc is insolvent, first and foremost if spain is such a basket case, why are the chineese buying there debt, secondly the issue of the guy over seeing the uk that left to join lloyds was a board tussle between the chiarman's daughter and this guy, of course one will have to bend and we all know who that is the guy of course, and this is not a news because it was actually in the open, this is what affected the uk float for this year, thirdly guys you need to get your facts right go to www.bancosantander.c | hollerich1
11/1/2011 09:38 | Anyone posting the Santander is going to need state money does not know what they are talking about. They are the best capaitalised bank in the world right now and are already prepared for basel III without needing any more finance. The bond issue is normal practice to structure and strengthen the balance sheet further. Massive upside when all the acquisitions are fully integrated and costs taken out. Dividend will not only be maintained but will be increased, guaranteed. | ashwellt
11/1/2011 04:16 | from a chartist point of view this is now a screaming buy... although that could all change if this falls below the 600! | skunkjam2006

10/1/2011 23:27 | Looks like the UK CEO here is making a timely exit & heading to Lloy before Spain becomes headline news... | ![]() diku
10/1/2011 23:19 | Well you need to work out how much state money Spain are going to want to inject into its Banks when they get bailed out and that includes this one. I dont know myself but rather suspect it may be a lot more than some people are hoping. Till then stay well clear imo. | ![]() envirovision
10/1/2011 23:01 | guys you need to see what is happening here bnc have been investing seriously through the downturn, they have been buying good finance business at a very low price in the usa,uk,russia, brazil | hollerich1
10/1/2011 18:47 | is it worth buying in at these levels though? I guess it all depends on the chances of the healthy dividend being maintained. i think any cut in dividend now will knock confidence in an already battered share so good chance will be maintained? any thoughts? | ![]() moneysage
10/1/2011 11:00 | Wad, ok Hands up who wish they hadn't bought only a month ago, I for one !!!! But think it will recover in the not to distant future.Good luck. | cjl2112
10/1/2011 09:36 | OK , hands up who else wished they sold out a year ago. This has to be one of the most disappointing performers of 2010.The yield is a compensation but it has underperformed.I think I shall be looking for an exit when it finally rises a bit more. | ![]() wad collector
08/1/2011 10:29 | I agree Hollerich, I am a long term holder of BNC with a holding all the way back from the old days of Abbey National so have watched this share be as high as £14 to as low as under £2. It was why I bought some more last Jan as I likewise see them as a very strong bank in an otherwise unstable sector at this time. Sadly the analogie those who fly with the crows get shot with the crows is applying here so Santander is being tarnished with same brush that both bank shares are being painted with and the EU PIGS debacle. I am hopefull that once the markets decide they have given the banking sector enough of a kicking and move on elsewhere that we might see a strong rally, I just wish it would come soon. Still looking forward to another healthy dividend payment next month. If I had any free cash at the moment I would even consider buying more at this price as they do seem ridiculously low at this time. Here's hoping we have a stonger 2011 GL ;) | fubaratbirth
08/1/2011 00:24 | fubaratbirth- i have watch bnc trend for over five years, if th share price price move they move very quickly sometimes with about 50p in a day, this is one of the remaining international bank in the world, that is doing so very well and in profit and have been paying nice dividend, by the time all there aqucsition made during the down turn filters through both in the uk and all other places abroad, then we are looking at a £25 stock here. they were the only bank that was buying during the down turn and they were buying very cheap. | hollerich1
07/1/2011 17:13 | holler i hope your right as I have been severely disappointed with BNC this last year. I bought in last Jan around 9.20 and have watched it sink ever since :( Only thing thats kept me in here is the very good dividend which has made up for the loss I am on so far and belief that eventually this share should come good but think it could be good bit off yet. Not sure how I see this share price climbing so high as you predict purely on company having to buy shares for dividend buyers, surely they wouldnt have to buy that many which will have such a major impact on the share price price would it? I have to say watching this the past few weeks has been bit depressing when seeing what other shares including some banks are doing when BNC appears solid with good assets but still getting a kicking. That said I notice that compared to most FTSE companies and banks the share volume each day traded for BNC is very very low at present which might be affecting the share price GL all anyway | fubaratbirth

07/1/2011 09:18 | tell me about it, but it will start flying by next week, cos the company has to buy shares for those who want shares instead of dividend for FEB 2011. | hollerich1
