They couldn't tell me what these reasons were other than they didn't like a perfectly normal bank transfer request. They then demanded to know what my payment was for. I considered that this was non of their business so they are now effectively holding my account to ransom until I comply with their unreasonable demands. Took me over an hour to sort out, involving me having to answer ridiculous questions while being barked at "YOU'RE PROBABLY BEING SCAMMED". No, I'm not, what I am at risk of is losing the purchase of the car due to Santander's behaviour. What really took the absolute biscuit - and appeared to be the determiner of whether they would allow the payment was whether I could provide details and dates of transactions on my account - THIS IS THE ACCOUNT YOU'VE BLOCKED MY ACCCESS TO, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO CHECK MY ACCOUNT AND TELL YOU THIS. I was reduced to a ridiculous "guessing game" "I think I might have spent £10.50 in Tesco last Tuesday?" while the bemused seller of the car sat there in embarrassment. If Santander insist on this crude fraud prevention system they should write to their customers and warn them that relatively normal transactions are likely to be prevented so they can choose to bank elsewhere. | brendadunn2025 | |

I travelled 6 hrs to buy a vehicle and when I was transferring the £25000, they blocked my account. I called them to say I was happy to make the transaction but they claimed I could be a victim of fraud. I was on the driveway of the sellers house, with the vehicle beside me but they refused to unblock my account. They asked me to do a HPI check, making out if it all came back clear, all would be well. My account is still blocked and I had to travel 6hrs back home with no campervan. I'm now having to go back down again this weekend. They also made out that they were doing you the biggest favour ever in protecting you from fraud. I've fought bigger and brought a multi billion dollar corporation to it's knees. They have no idea who they targeted. Imagine 100 IT kids in India dedicated to making every single Santander customer and shareholder around the world aware of the truth that they are broke and stealing/hijacking customers money just to stay afloat. Imagine a bank run on Santander. I DARE them to keep holding onto my money! 16/10/2024 14:50 | SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE: No Dignity, No Privacy, STAY AWAY I have tried to make a payment of £100 over the mobile app to my friend. Received a text from santander saying to phone the fraud department. The other side started to ask silly questions in my opinion, regarding my payment, ... started with some questions: Do you know this person? How long you know this person? Where you meet this person? Is she local? Where did you meet her? Is she your girlfriend? And so on almost nothing regarding why my payment was blocked. Started to be upset answering for questions regarding my privacy not regarding the £100 been blocked. She was proudly saying that I had to answer all of those questions because otherwise she couldn't release the payment that anyway wasn't made in the end. 16/10/2024 14:48 | SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE: Santander have truly broken our family CHAPS payment sent before deadline with assurance the payment would be made. This was a large payment for house completion. The funds never arrived, house completion failed. We are now HOMELESS with an 11 month old. NOBODY at Santander has been able to help. They don't want to know. No empathy, no apology. We are now in breach of contract on the house completion and will need to pay all reasonable costs for the houses above us in the chain. This is going to cost us a HUGE amount - money we simply don't have. It's honestly broken me. Hours spent on the phone with Santander got me nowhere. I don't know where to turn. Typing this whilst sat in a ridiculously expensive hotel (everything else booked) with no idea if we will be able to compete today. All of this due to Santander. After around 30 security checks asking me to confirm my identity, enter security codes correct that santander sent to my phone. I get told by the app its fraud and my transfer has been blocked and I must call them immediately. I call them immediately and then spend an hour on the phone still being refused access to my own money. This is going to cause me to go overdrawn on another account due to refusal to let me transfer my own money. 16/10/2024 13:25 | SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE: Worse bank I have interacted with Worse bank I have interacted with, tried to move my money to another of my accounts, was declined, I had to ring them, spending over an hour waiting, being transferred, until finally I was cleared to move my money, after a long speech how wonderful they were, and 50% of the time it was scams, not their customers. I try to use the banks app as it avoids speaking to rude, unhelpful, patronising Staff (in this instance Santander) but their app is particularly useless. Moved everything away from them, although it is easier to open accounts than to close them. Not sure how much longer they will survive against challenger banks, offering decent apps and better rates, great customer satisfaction. ie Atom, Zopa, to name but two. | brendadunn2025 | |

I've only had this account for two months and I have the impression that Santander wants to rob me of my money. It's scary to go anywhere, even abroad, because you don't know if your account will be blocked for some reason and you'll end up in a bind. terrible surveillance. Beware of this bank!! You will find that they can block your account, at will, under the pretext of protecting you from scams . They talk to you as if you are simple and want to know what you are spending your own money on. They hate transferring your money to different banks that have better interest rates than theirs and make the transaction very difficult for you.
