12/10/2024 12:40 | SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE: Not customer-oriented, bullying bank that will try its best to block money coming out of your account The first problem I had with Santander was when one of their employees stole money from my bank account (in the past). I called them and the first thing they did was trying to (aggressively) blame it on me. After insisting, they finally checked the origin of the transfer and realized it was from their own bank. They refunded me, but that wasn't a good sign. The latest problem I had with Santander was when I tried to make a bank transfer. Not only did the bank block my payment, they also blocked my online banking access. I had to phone them and spend in total 3h including going to a branch (what if I had been abroad??) just to have them reopen my online access. The person on the phone literally bullied me into phoning other people which had nothing to do with my problem just so they would unlock my online access. In the end, I proceeded with the payment with another bank (Wise) and that took 5 seconds. Another problem with Santander is that you cannot reach them online. They have NO contact email, and they do not answer when you answer to their automated emails. They say that you can use the online chat, but it almost never work and when it does it is just a bot that will ask you to phone them anyway... Conclusion: I have been with Santander for about 10 years but I have had enough. I will move my accounts to Nationwide, which I heard lots of good about. 12/10/2024 12:32 | SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE: Unhelpful, Insensitive, Agressive & Unreasonable Sadly this lot have gone down hill at Epic speed. I have had to raise 3 complaints in 4 days with them. The last one was when they shut down my accounts when i needed to make a payment of £2k for works done on the house. They refused to reinstate me - even when i passed security unless i went to a branch and brought in all my ID. Even when i said i was going on my honeymoon they were faceless and dis-interested and said that if i wanted to get my account unfrozen i must go into a branch - and yes they knew we would miss our flight. We have borrowed money to go away - i will be closing 3 accounts with them soon as i am home. @ Santander - pls dont write a patronising reply saying we are really sorry and pls get in touch to discuss etc etc yada yada. Now I've broken my leg and I get my account blocked (again) rang them and they said the only way to fix is to go into branch and show them ID, don't know how they expect me to get there without any money. Well it wasn't really a transaction was it because you essentially prevented it, therefore prevented me access to my own money. 11/10/2024 23:16 | SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE: DO NOT TRUST - Santander is fraudulent If I could, I would give zero to Santander UK. I’m actually about to report them to the financial ombudsman. They put a lock on my account, meaning I cannot access my account. They cannot give me a reason why. I have called them several times to resolve the issue, I’ve spent hours on hold, been transferred to all their different teams, I’ve been made promises such as I would receive a phone call within a certain time frame, which I never did. This has been going on for several month now. Nobody can tell me why my account has a block on, nobody can unblock my account, and I cannot even speak with a manager or anybody who can tell me why this is happening or has the authority to remove the block. This means I can receive payments but cannot make any payment. Not even direct debit can leave my account apart from THEIR bank charges. I’ve been their customer for over 10 years and I had ongoing payments from my account until this happened. They don't value their customers. I don’t even know if I will ever be able to access my money on my Santander business account. It seems like they have just stolen everything I had on that account. DO NOT TRUST Santander!!!! They are fraudulent. They are very crafty criminals therefore I would advise anyone to try to stay away from them, but if you are already in their trap, like I am, record all phone conversations and write to them postal letters with recorded delivery. 11/10/2024 22:51 | SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE: Beware what a Fiasco!!! Beware, do not open an account with this bank. I opened an account and transferred money into the account. A week later i tried to transfer 20k to a friend that I was buying a car from, the account was locked down, and I was instructed to call security. They asked me a load of questions, and I was then told to present my self at the branch to prove my identity. This I did. I was kept in the branch for over half an hour, being asked questions such as, what color is the car, have I seen the log book. After this grilling I was told that the account would be unblocked. Two hours later account still blocked, I call in again, another hour on the phone to the security team who again grill me on the type of car, the age the make, they also threaten me that if I don't cooperate they will make it a lot more difficult to get access back into my account and MY money. They are now considering if they will unblock my account! As soon as I can, I will be transferring my money out of this fiasco and going to a decent bank. Relentless, tiresome blocking & restricting of business account on the grounds of 'security' which quite frankly is unacceptable, certainly not in the interest of our business & preventing us from paying our customers. One 'security check' took over seven hours of staff time answering a multitude of questions & providing evidence to support as such. They locked me out of my account simply for me wanting to withdraw my own money as I had lost total faith in them upon them obfuscating and delaying me from withdrawing a smaller amount. They claimed everything from making sure I was the account holder, to falsely claiming I was the victim of a romance scam and called the police on me in the middle of the bank full of other customers looking on. The police told Santander that I was clearly not the victim of any scam, I simply wanted my money and they should remove the block on my bank account, but Santander ignored the police and kept my money. They are ABSOLUTE THIEVES! This thread is dedicated to all Santander's victims. If you, or anyone you know, have become victims of Santander, please share your experience here. My recommendation to the public, in the public interest, is: If you or your family members hold a Santander account, and you have thousands in that account, do not risk leaving that money with them but do not try to withdraw it or transfer it or you will lose your money to them. Open an account with a more reputable bank and ask the new bank to switch your account from Santander to your new bank and everything will go smoothly. Ignore this advice and you will more than likely end up becoming another victim if you try to withdraw more money than they want you too. They are tranching our money and they can't afford to lose their control over our money. Remember the Northern Rock days, Santander are closing branches right, left and centre so when they go belly up, where are you going to queue for your money, online?
