In a surprising announceme nt on Sunday evening, the Royal Navy revealed that the seventh and final Astute-class nuclear-powered submarine, previously named HMS Agincourt, will now be called HMS Achilles.
The change was shared via the Royal Navy’s official Twitter account, marking a departure from the name announced in 2018. The boat’s name was confirmed in May 2018, having previously held the in-work name of Ajax.
The Royal Navy stated: “The 7th Astute-class submarine is to be named HMS Achilles, as approved by The King. The name is appropriate in light of the 80th anniversaries this year of VE and VJ Day. Six ships have previously borne the name, earning six battle honours, including the River Plate and Okinawa.”

But RW does provide continuous information on contracts which helps to underwrite the share price. |
Ribble Wader a well known BAE mouthpiece continues to spew forth - which has no effect on the sp |
Well , it would appear that , whatever it's cause, the share price decline is over for now. A steady march back to £14?
To probably misquote Plato. " The only people who have seen the End of War are the dead." |
BAE Systems has been awarded an $85 million production contract by the U.S. Navy to deliver additional Network Tactical Common Data Link (NTCDL) systems.
These systems will enhance the U.S. Navy’s situational awareness and tactical battlefield capabilities by enabling real-time and simultaneous networked operations across air, surface, and subsurface platforms.
The NTCDL systems, currently being installed on U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and slated for integration on Constellation-class frigates, facilitate secure, real-time exchanges of voice, data, imagery, and full-motion video. |
In response to a parliamentary question from Rebecca Paul MP (Conservative, Reigate), Maria Eagle, Minister of State for Defence, outlined recent developments in the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), a critical project to deliver the UK’s next-generation fighter aircraft.
Eagle confirmed ongoing progress through the trilateral Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), a collaboration between the UK, Italy, and Japan. She stated: “The core platform, that will sit at its heart, is being delivered through the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP). The Prime Minister and his Italian and Japanese counterparts have reiterated their commitment to GCAP.”

BAE Systems has signed an agreement with Airbus to provide the energy storage system for Airbus’ microhybridization demonstration project for commercial aircraft. The two companies will advance sustainable aviation by maturing and integrating electrification technologies that can reduce aviation’s carbon footprint.
BAE Systems will develop, test, and deliver energy storage packs for electric aircraft in the megawatt power class, offering two hundred-kilowatt-hour energy capacity to enhance energy efficiency and performance. The energy storage system will provide electric propulsion assist to the engine during various phases of flight. |
Good luck with this! |
But which end of the egg should I put to put to my mouth? |
I see many positives for BAE to grow from here: 1/ Since Russian invasion of Ukraine, Europe is NOW aware it MUST strengthen its defenses and should never trust an unpredictable Russia- Thus defense budgets will be priority and will grow for at least the next decade. 2/ As soon as Trump was elected, Europe knows it will be almost alone in terms of defense as Trump will make it pay for any help the US provides. 3/ With China threatening Taiwan on a daily basis, another unstable point is starting to appear in the far east. This means all countries close to Taiwan will strengthen their defenses to avoid being the next victims. My conlcusion is that even without any war, BAE will definitely prosper. Regarding its share price, IMO the market will change its mind and sentiments as soon as the next full year results are released on 19 February 2025. |
The share price collapse of late would certainly say otherwise. |
Sadly, I have to agree with you Wad. Happy New Year to you all. |
I don't think that we need to consider that possibility for very long. 2025 will clearly not fit that description. |
...Peace and goodwill to all for 2025
Wouldn't that be bad news for BA.? 🙄 |
