Seem to be some stock issues in the stores local to me. I hear they are having to prioritise the larger stores. Is this baked in to the current price. Last target price I saw was £6.

Berenberg initiates on ‘bargain’ B&M

Berenberg has initiated coverage on B&M European Value Retail (BME) and believes investors have the chance to ‘grab a bargain’ as shares in the discount retailer have pulled back.

Analyst Thomas Davies initiated coverage with a ‘buy’ recommendation and target price of 600p on the stock, which closed up 1.3%, or 7p, at 541p on Tuesday.

The shares are still some way off their 601p peak on 17 February.

Davies said the company had been a ‘Covid-19 beneficiary’ and he believes the ‘group will be a post-Covid-19 winner too’.

‘B&M offers one of the strongest top-line growth and return-on-invested-capital profiles in European retail, and its cash-generative business should support additional capital returns,’ said Davies.

‘We believe the recent share price pullback has provided an attractive entry point into a structural winner. The next catalyst is the full year results on 28 May.’

B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BME) has accelerated its cash generation to a point that it should have headroom to pay out more special dividends, according to analysts at Liberum, who restarted coverage on the stock with a ‘buy’ rating and 600p target price on Tuesday.

In a note, the broker said the FTSE 100 discount retailer is maintaining a “much cheaper core grocery offer” versus the supermarkets, which they said has helped to drive “significant new customer acquisition, while maintaining margin strength and delivery broad category growth”.

READ: B&M European Value Retail dishes out special dividend after profits rocket
“In June 2020, c.23% of B&M’s UK customers had not shopped at B&M in the previous five months, suggesting a significant number of consumers are discovering the stores for the first time. There is a clear opportunity to retain this cohort, while continuing to attract new shoppers, driven by the strength of the group’s general merchandise, discount offer…and its ongoing store roll-out, which has at least another 6-7 years”, Liberum said.

The broker added that an acceleration in like-for-like sales over the pandemic has strengthened the group’s cash flow and they now expected B&M to generate over £1bn in cash over the next three years, which they said allowed “scope for further material special dividends” that could be similar to the special payout of 25p per share announced in the company’s half-year results in November.

Liberum also highlighted that while the family shopper demographic remained core to the business, B&M was showing signs that its offer is “also beginning to appeal to a broader demographic spread”.

Notwithstanding this backdrop, revenues and margins have remained strong over Q4 to date, particularly in the Group's B&M fascia business in the UK. Accordingly, the Group now expects adjusted EBITDA(1) (on a pre-IFRS 16 basis) for FY21 to be in the range of GBP 590 m to GBP 620 m, stated after the voluntary payment of business rates amounting to approximately GBP80m. This compares to the previous range announced on 7 January 2021 of GBP540m to GBP570m.
