Another lifeline achieved, averting this cos. demise, should instil some confidence, it's a race against time, but contract flow is suggesting things are improving on the revenue front! Just this millstone of debt!

ADSL Participates in the ECO Project with Avanti Communications and ESA

14 October 2016

Computing
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SatADSL proudly announces its participation in the public-private partnership between the European Space Agency (“ESA”) and leading provider of satellite data communications services, Avanti Communications (“Avanti”), for deployment of the ECO initiative. ECO, developed by Avanti and part of ESA’s ARTES partner programme, will deliver affordable wireless connectivity to 1,400 community sites across Sub-Saharan Africa using a new Wi-Fi hotspot service over the next two years. The solar-powered Wi-Fi hotspots will be hosted at schools which will in turn benefit from the subsidised broadband access.

SatADSL’s involvement in the ECO project focuses on deploying the hotspot terminal infrastructure, based on technology provider Newtec’s Dialog platform, and improving its services in Sub-Saharan Africa by optimising the infrastructure for High Throughput Satellites (HTS). SatADSL will additionally expand its current range of services in Africa, rolling out its e-learning solution, piloted in Ghana. Together with its current commercial partners in Ghana, SatADSL will manage a pilot phase of the service consisting of more than a hundred schools being equipped through the project. SatADSL will deliver ECO services in specific verticals, including Cyber Cafes, through a number of partners. To access the Internet connectivity, users within range of the Wi-Fi hotspot, will be able to buy broadband credits via an e-Commerce web page, paying through mobile money.

Under the new partnership, ESA will contribute up to €10.7 million in funding that Avanti, Newtec and SatADSL will use to bring rural communities across Sub-Saharan Africa online with the advanced new technology platform.

Fastest-ever superfast satellite broadband arrives in Scotland
By Lynda Hamilton Parker - October 12, 2016

Superfast 30Mb satellite broadband now offers 100% coverage across the country

Superfast satellite broadband with speeds up to 30Mbps – the fastest-ever service commercially available in the UK – has been launched across the whole of Scotland thanks to a partnership between Avonline Broadband, one of the UK’s leading telecoms services companies, and satellite provider Avanti Communications Group.

Mark Wynn, managing director of Avonline, said: “For the many homes and businesses in the county still waiting for superfast broadband, this new superfast satellite broadband service, delivering up to 30Mb download speeds is available immediately.

“It provides a superfast service in rural areas where people have literally been waiting years for an upgrade. We can now deliver this service to any part of the country with installation typically just a week or two from order.”

Rather than use an underground copper/fibre network like BT, satellite broadband operates by sending and receiving a two-way broadband signal to a satellite about 22,000 miles in space. Because the satellite sits high up in space, it can provide equal quality of coverage to every home or business in the UK.

Wynn added: “For many in rural Scotland superfast satellite broadband will be their only way of getting really fast reliable broadband in the immediate future, Over the past 12 months we have run a very successful pilot scheme in three counties backed by DCMS and I am delighted that we can now offer these brand new services to anyone that needs them.”

A range of Avonline superfast satellite broadband packages are available immediately and, because satellite broadband doesn’t need a phone line, customers could also save on line rental charges if they don’t need a fixed line phone.

Currently in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, there are government voucher schemes for rural locations. To overcome this in Scotland where there is no voucher scheme at present, Avonline says it’s keen to work with local communities and groups in Scotland to offer multiple systems at significant discounts to overcome this issue.

Families and businesses in rural Scottish communities continue to be frustrated by slow or non-existent broadband services and continued inability to deliver fibre to the most isolated locations. Fast, reliable satellite broadband based on the latest British technology, such as the new service that has been launched, has 100% coverage of the country and is affordable and available to those communities now.

Benefits to families include improved access to online services, greater convenience and enriched education for their children. Benefits for small businesses include improved productivity, better communications and increase profitability. Recent research highlighted that 75% of UK small businesses believe that broadband is vital to their businesses, with individuals indicating that sales grew 40% in a year due to being online.

Wynn added: “Our new service is available everywhere in Scotland, right now including Highlands and Islands. From under-served local towns to neglected rural locations, we can now offer a superfast solution with a choice of affordable broadband packages, so that finally rural consumers should no longer feel second class when it comes to broadband

Avanti Communications (AVN) is on the verge of securing an agreement for a sale

Avanti Communications poised to win stay of execution for sale, equity injection or recapitalisation – sources
Avanti Communications is on the verge of securing an agreement with all the owners of its bonds that will see the satellite operator defer the payment of a $32.2 million coupon until 2019, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Two weeks ago Avanti, which has a $650 million debt pile, said it had begun a consent solicitation process with bondholders to delay the $32.2 million payment. In return, Avanti plans to issue a new financial instrument that matures in 2019.
Reports suggest 60pc of 2016 bondholders – MAST Capital Management and Solus Alternative Asset Management, who also happen to own 26pc of Avanti’s equity – have already indicated they have agreed to the coupon deferal proposal. Since then, the company and its advisers have been trying to get the other bondholders on board.
Well, I hear from sources familiar with the situation that almost 90pc of bondholders have given consent to Avanti to press ahead with the proposal, meaning the company has bought itself some time to either sell itself, find a new equity investor or carry out a recapitalisaition.
In August it was reported that London-listed rival Inmarsat had made an approach for Avanti.
