Yeah those evil shorters eh:

- forcing the management to pay themselves large salaries and bonuses while failing to hit revenue targets

- making Avanti lend money to customers to buy their kit and then making the customers default on the payments

- single-handedly leading the satellite data market to overcapcity and deflationary pricing

their evil reign gets everywhere. Is there nothing in the world that is outside of their diabolical influence!?

Good companies aren't destroyed by shorting.

Bad companies destroy themselves.

Elrico - it was a question - I had two question marks because it was based upon gossip ????? Did you spot that ????

It is with some sadness that I see a potentially good company destroyed by shorting, which takes away a companies ability to use its own equity to raise capital to pay its debts.

Shorting is a form of theft in my view and should be illegal. Shorters may gloat, but should spare a thought for investors who have lost a lot of money, and the workers put out of jobs. And I'm broadly neutral in my investment in AVN over the years.

If they have any conscience those shorting the stock should give their ill gotten gains to charity and pray for their souls.

I got out some time ago too, thank goodness. What I can't understand is the apparent disconnect between the perceived need and Avanti's inability to tap into it. The weekend papers were full of some story about businesses on Exmoor being so fed up with their internet service that they're investing in a network of masts to boost signal. For goodness sake, isn't this exactly the market Avanti was designed to address? Over the years we've had similar stories from Scotland and other rural areas. Is it a failure of marketing or am I missing something?

Suspect the equity is valueless here folks. Debt holders will probably take a haircut too though satellites clearly have some value

(I sold for a loss a while back around 200p)

Emphatic denial. I think they hate each other.

except that in their announcement of a couple of weeks ago AVN had exemption from the Takeover Panel from announcing every approoach they get/got. So the don't have to make an announcement I think.

we shall see.

But I don't think the shares are going lower now, despite the doom sayers.

S&P said that it was "unlikely that Avanti will meet its financial obligations in 2016"

"We could lower the long-term rating to 'CC' if Avanti is unable to secure meaningful additional financing, as we think this would make a short-term default inevitable."

Bonds holders are buying equity...what does that tell you ?

See Solus have gone over 15%, announced today. Not sure how long theyve been on the register but they appear to have been mopping up the loose GIC stock that came on the market this spring/summer.

They are also a major bond holder I believe, along with MAST, Aberdeen and others (did I read somewhere that Michael Dell's bond fund is an investor?).

Don't know what all this means but am guessing a major bondholder wouldn't be buying 'worthless' equity if it didn't think some kind of soultion was to be found.

I note that Solus is also an investor in Intelsat so guess they think they know the sector.

JK - is it not illegal to directly tell people to buy and sell on BBs? I object to the way you and other shorters seem so personally concerned to advise others directly on what action to take. I object to those who shout to get other's to buy, and don't appreciate shouting telling me to sell. My comment above highlights the risk.

Tell me you think it is going down if you like, but it is my right to buy rubbish if I want. I've been in this game for over 20 years and had a lot of success, and I wouldn't have bought many of the ill fitting and poor quality stocks held by Rivington Street Holdings before it fell over.

Ideally, it would be good to see BT/EE stump up £50m, for 49.9% stake, and guarantee the loan note. They are under pressure to deliver broadband for everyone, and that would be a good sign. Otherwise, it is uncertain whether a takeover would add much to the current price based upon assets alone. But the business has growth potential and a bidder might be willing to pay a premium, but it is not clear and risky for those of us PIs who do not have inside information.
