Yes, it was announced in the RNS about the $370m bond issued on 27 September -

"Avanti is also pleased to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Space Agency in relation to the acquisition of the Artemis satellite for a nominal sum. This satellite, which has a minimum of a further three years of useful life, occupies an orbital position at 21.5 East and gives the Company access to new opportunities. The Artemis contract is subject to final approval by ESA."

Contract win for satellite from European Space Agency ("ESA")

· Avanti wins competition to acquire new satellite and use of 21.5° East spectrum

· Nil upfront cost

· Near term revenue potential in new institutional and commercial customers



Avanti announces that it has signed a contract with ESA to take ownership of a satellite currently in orbit called ARTEMIS. Avanti succeeded in a competition against multiple bidders in which ESA's key decision factors included the promotion of innovation and competition in Europe. Avanti will pay nothing upfront and will assume modest operational costs which it expects will be offset by new revenues from the project.

Avanti will take ownership of the ARTEMIS satellite on January 1, 2014. ARTEMIS is a highly sophisticated satellite which offers some unique communications services. It can communicate with other satellites in space as well as users on the ground. It is located at 21.5° East enabling excellent coverage of Europe, Africa and the Middle East to be achieved. It has fuel to allow continued operation to at least the end of 2016 and still have sufficient reserves for safe de-orbiting at end of life.

All of the ARTEMIS satellite's Ka-band, S-band, L-band and Optical payloads are fully functional. ARTEMIS gives Avanti the opportunity to offer a range of new Ka-band services such as very high speed data transfer at up to 450 Mbps to commercial and institutional customers. Avanti also has plans to commercially develop the S and L-band payloads and navigation payload.

Avanti will use ARTEMIS to support ESA's Autonomous Transfer Vehicle (ATV-5) on its re-supply mission to the International Space Station in 2014. An existing customer of ARTEMIS will continue to utilise the L-band payload to offer mobile satellite communications services.

The UK Administration (Ofcom) will also take over responsibility from the French Administration (acting on behalf of ESA) for the management of the ARTEMIS satellite network filings to the ITU at 21.5° East, with Avanti also becoming the designated satellite operator for these satellite network filings. The ARTEMIS satellite network filings cover various frequency bands including parts of Ka-band, Ku-band, S-band and L-band and support a wide range of satellite services.

Commenting David Williams said: "We are very pleased to have won the competition to own this satellite. It takes us into some interesting new institutional markets with service from a new orbital position which may be impactful in the debt financing of a replacement satellite in future. "

Magali Vaissiere of ESA said: "We are pleased to give Artemis a second life through this agreement with Avanti after an already exceptional series of world first technological achievements and services."

Quite a lot of hype over Bluejet's new in-flight satellite Wi-Fi over Ka-band this morning over in America. Shows a lot of potential. Shame is not Avanti in a high profile story like this!

Still it's nice to see we have another revenue-boosting deal this morning. I make that four in the last month. That's quite a bit better than Avanti have done in a long time. For the longest time my Google feed mainly came up with non-revenue boosting stories, such as the opening of relay stations. Now the focus of the news seems to have switched in the last few months to more revenue-boosting deals.

As I said a few days ago, I wonder if these deals are the reason why we now seem to have some lift in the share price.

hello john yes it seems that way and i,m off out in the morning tomorrow but i,m hoping that 240ish is support maybe get a bounce and carry on with are upward march .

Inmarsat is an existing player. They are investing in Ka band because it is the way to go. It will satisfy future requirements. Avanti already has Ka band.
There is a lot of demand for Ka band and it will keep growing.
The fact that an existing company is investing in Ka band can be seen as proof that Avanti invested wisely.
Now we just need to see Avanti deliver.

I'm a bit confused.
Finally, Avanti seems to be coming back to life, hurrah, yet two of it's biggest rivals have just launched comms satellites into space.
Surely this is bleak news for us, I would have thought.

And when Avanti ever announce a nice contract win, we seem to plummet!!

Have I misunderstood something basic here?

This from today's stock market report:

"Over the weekend satellite group Inmarsat (ISAT) saw the first of a potential four new satellites launched into space, as it looks to deliver broadband services that are 100 times faster than its current Inmarsat-4 fleet. The company - which can count governments, energy companies and airlines amongst its customers - says that its new satellites will enable a broadband connection anywhere from the middle of an ocean to an aircraft flying at 40,000 feet."

Does anybody know how the speed of Immersat's "100 times faster" broadband compares with what Avanti can deliver?

Lets hope so. Once we break 260 blue sky up to 300p. I think it will reach that level quickly and then up to 340 levels at a more gradual pace again. 350-360 will then be a key resistance level to break.

Hopefully, if upwards trend continues could be a decisive week for us. We need decisive break through 260p level and then hopefully 300p will be in site.
