15/10/2013 17:18 | Have the Government of Singapore been selling some of their shares and did I miss the press release saying that they have been. I've taken a lot of comfort from them being big holders and increasing their holding from what they bought last year. Now I'm not so sure what's happening. On the Avanti Comms website there are two lists of major shareholders at the moment. The one dated end of March 2013 shows the Government of Singapore owning 6.9% ( Then the one dated end of August 2013 shows them only owning 5.3% ( So it looks as if they've sold 1.6% based on the information on the companies site. Aren't we supposed to be told if a big shareholder sells down through a press release or did I miss it? Can anyone confirm or who do we speak to to check it out? At least today was a better day for the price than yesterday. Lets hope for some good news on contracts soon. Cheers, Windy. | mill3rm
15/10/2013 10:27 | Well your short has not got off to a rip roaring start Melody, I would have thought directors would be better placed at knowing which way the share price is likely to go looking forward based on knowing how the business is doing than some blogger. | yorgi
14/10/2013 23:15 | On clicking on an above link, 496 I think, a trojan tried to infect my computer but was succesfully quarantined by my antivirus. Just thought had better mention it. First time for everything ! | tugwil
14/10/2013 13:35 | I went short this morning, having previously held long positions in the company. Whilst invested in the company, I became concerned over the management - cannot recall why now but it stuck with me and it was related to their claims of great things in the future, and good levels of sales. Then I read this commentary at hxxp://lordshipstrad Some of the stuff struck a chord. So whilst there may be no news, there are certainly a lot of question marks. | melody9999
14/10/2013 12:34 | Quite right. The guy is the biggest plonker I have known. If most investors invested the opposite of what he recommends they would have been very rich by now. | ttny2004
14/10/2013 10:17 | I would have said so LazyJ. | yorgi
14/10/2013 10:12 | Is all this price movement on "no news". Or have I missed something? | lazyj
14/10/2013 09:36 | Wow is this really down 10% because of that comment from TW?? Shouldn't it be up 10% due to the fact that he is an expert at calling things completely wrong? | liam1om
14/10/2013 09:25 | I hardly think Paul Walsh, John Brackenbury, Alan Foster and David Williams have bought shares to throw money away. They will know full well what is really going on and directors buying will not "make" AVN but the growing business will. | yorgi
14/10/2013 09:09 | every company is a possible takeover reguard less of the price | wilksey1
14/10/2013 08:56 | Very true Jbarcrofter. | yorgi
14/10/2013 08:54 | Is this likely to become an easy target for a takeover at a very cheap price? | 2vdm
13/10/2013 12:33 | Ridicule away, old son, I've got a thick skin! It was the Year End Trading Update on 10 July that was "awful"; the subsequent results came in as guided by that. If I was going to sell, that would have been the moment, as I said at the time on the other thread. They've made disastrous presentational blunders in the past - the 'change of accounting policy' fiasco of last year and the missed forecast this - but the answer to the bears' criticisms lies in the cashflow. Cash either turns up in the accounts or it does not. The final results showed that at least some of it has, with an excuse for the shortfall, but if we don't see the amounts guided at the next results, I would agree that we have a problem. In the meantime, I am assuming that contributors to the recent Bond did some due diligence to ensure that the cash was coming in to pay for it! | jeffian
12/10/2013 23:54 | The bears want to drive the price down to allow them to close their shorts. They omit to mention the non execs share purchases. | jbarcroftr
12/10/2013 22:09 | EK commenting on Friday... "Avanti (AVN) continues to fascinate Lordship who has submitted the following: . One really should not own this stock, now 235p. As is clear, Avanti's customers are not good at paying for what Avanti claims they have bought." | someuwin
12/10/2013 22:01 | Normally companies don't pay because: 1 they have their own financial problems OR 2 they are in dispute over the contract and payment terms OR 3 there is a problem with the service If AVN are having problems collecting payments, is there an issue with the quality of the service. Or perhaps some ambiguity in the contracts that have been signed? | melody9999
12/10/2013 18:32 | Post it here, and I will. | jeffian
12/10/2013 10:21 | I wasn't necessarily disagreeing with you. If they're struggling to get actual usage rather than promises of it on the satellites though, they might have put strict credit control to one side and said if we take on some marginal business, we're better off even if only 80 or 90% of those marginal sales actually get paid for. | aa29
11/10/2013 23:32 | No, it's the ultimate deterrent. If you cut them off, you can re-sell the spare capacity. They have no business. Who has most to lose? | jeffian
11/10/2013 17:56 | True but if you cut someone off, you haven't got the capacity being used and you're not generating sales income. If the debt goes bad then the sales boost is a pointless exercise but not all slow payers turn out to be bad debts. You only have that full control when the satellite is at or near full capacity and someone else can replace the poor payer. | aa29 |
