20/7/2008 18:18 | Thanks Jimbo, I think we may see a slight retracement to about the 1.70 level (maybe 1.73) anything under 1.75 and I'll be snapping them up! I may be calling it totally wrong of course, but will watch and see. If it looks to be rising again (above £2), then I'll rue my loss of a bargain and jump in pronto. | ju1cester
20/7/2008 09:52 | Ju1cester, there was good support at this level when the wider market tanked earlier this year. If you're planning to buy in as a long term investment, this could be as good a chance as any. The decision is yours, obviously. | jimbo55
18/7/2008 14:14 | Am looking to get in here. Was given the background to it by my brother and as I like a sense of adventure with my investments, it really appealed to me. You don't get a much greater sense of suspence than a satallite launch! Anyway. Will see how it holds around the current level, but look forward to buying a few soon. | ju1cester
18/7/2008 07:08 | looks like selling was the right move, the price is dropping quite quickly now, something not quite right. | currypasty
16/7/2008 18:15 | I am sanguine. AVN is undervalued, and enough people know that. That is why it has outperformed both the FTSE all share and theAIM index over 3 months. The outperformance over a year is even more stark. | terryebby
15/7/2008 18:36 | darlocst Thank you for your comments. If the drop is due merely to market sentiment it is of no consequence to me in the short term.I had been wondering whether there was some imminent negative news re the satellite launch or contracts. | standish11
15/7/2008 16:14 | Small cap volatility. Low vol, mostly sellers, not enough buyers. Market makers don't want to hold stock on their books so keep dropping the price. Drop similar in size in % terms to the one it had in Oct/Nov last year. Sold out of my small position here a few weeks ago | darlocst
15/7/2008 16:06 | Big drop in share price today.Any idea why anybody? | standish11

09/7/2008 12:20 | terry, Good news for AVN, but be careful of reading across valuations from the US satellite mkt to Europe. There is oversupply of satellites over the US, and pricing is quite a bit less there and the whole industry dynamic is different. Perhaps that's why AVN have no plans to expand in the US. | sirlurkalot
08/7/2008 08:01 | Insurance is £89m. Check out today's FT - Harbinger buying Inmarsat because satellite spectrum is worth a ton of money Inmarsat receives takeover signal By Rob Minto in London and Paul Taylor in New York Financial Times. July 8 2008 03:00 Inmarsat, the international satellite communications group, revealed yesterday it had received a takeover approach from Harbinger, the US hedge fund, which is its largest shareholder with a 28.8 per cent stake. Inmarsat said that it had received "a very preliminary approach made on behalf of funds managed by Harbinger" that might lead to an offer. It cautioned, however, that talks were at a very early stage. Inmarsat shares rose 6 per cent to 525p on the news, valuing the company at £2.27bn ($4.5bn). Harbinger is likely to need clearance from US competition authorities and communications regulators to seal a takeover of Inmarsat, according to people familiar with the talks, suggesting that a long delay is possible. However, if a deal is eventually completed it could lead to a significant realignment among existing mobile satellite operators and increase the likelihood that new mobile telecoms services will be launched in the US using "L-band" spectrum and a new hybrid mobile cellular/satellite technology called ancillary terrestrial component (ATC). Harbinger has holdings in other US satellite-based ventures, including 47.5 per cent of SkyTerra Communications, the parent of MSV which has pioneered ATC technology in the US, and a 38.3 per cent holding in TerreStar Networks. TerreStar is also a large SkyTerra shareholder. SkyTerra last year agreed to divide up the North American "L-band" wireless spectrum with Inmarsat to boost SkyTerra's mobile business. In contrast, TerreStar plans to operate mobile services on the so-called "S-band". Analysts said that Harbinger might be looking to exploit the potentially valuable spectrum held by Inmarsat and SkyTerra in the US. "Harbinger is definitely focusing on the value of Inmarsat's spectrum in a potential ATC deployment, and is highly likely to combine Inmarsat with SkyTerra," said Tim Farrar, a satellite industry expert with TFM Associates "It is less likely to result in a three-way merger with TerreStar because their spectrum is in a different band." Inmarsat has a third crucial satellite launch in August in Kazakhstan that would complete its nextgeneration satellite network. Harbinger and SkyTerra declined to comment. | terryebby
07/7/2008 12:52 | If I've remembered correctly, the insurance policy is worth £50 million IF the satellite does go awol. | jimbo55
07/7/2008 08:57 | Surely the insurance policy is only worth something if the satellite goes awol. If not, the insurance policy is worth zilch. | argy2
07/7/2008 08:47 | yeah this is not jam tomorrow though at the current price - the cash, the satellite under construction and their licenses myst be worth more than the market cap, not to mention the insurance policy | terryebby
04/7/2008 10:52 | Actually I think it has held up reasonably well considering the hammering that many "jam tomorrow" type stocks have had over the last few days. Volumes have been tiny. Another small contract win announced on 2 July. | sivadnoj
04/7/2008 09:49 | did anyone notice the Trading update ? IN line with expectations yet share price has gone down 5% | terryebby
01/7/2008 09:39 | Yes, siv, that was a small deal but every little helps. | sirlurkalot
26/6/2008 13:29 | This is the one that they were announced as preferred bidder for in late May so not really new news, but good to see that it is now definite. | sivadnoj
18/6/2008 08:42 | Is that amusing, Curry? If you want it spelt out, yes, I do think plenty of ADVFN posters write junk, though there is also good stuff here. Let's keep this thread full of useful thoughts, and on-topic. Do you think everything on ADVFN is high quality analysis? | sirlurkalot
18/6/2008 06:44 | Have you bought shares in AVN because you want the company to "benefit the community"? I have bought because I think it will be a successful business and I will make some money out of it for not a lot of work. Every successful business needs the wheels of industry greasing once in a while, and that requires positioning the right people in the right place at the right time. The business world runs on the old boy network. Yes its sleazy, but its the way of the world. If you don't like it maybe you should invest in a compnay promoting "Organic Tofu for every Child" ? :-) A fine appointment. | steveofsw19
17/6/2008 11:09 | > terryebby - 17 Jun'08 - 10:53 - 274 of 276 > > i cant find anything bad about him on the internet - what are you referring to ? Terry, take a look at this: In particular, take a look at his performance stats as an MP, his vast number of NED positions and his Additional Expenses Claim. Nuff Said. He's obviously in the MP job out of selfless altruism and wanting to serve his constituents to the best of his ability........ NOT! (In my opinion re. the "NOT" bit). He also unashamedly voted for the Lisbon Treaty; the end of British Parliamentary Democracy in not so many words......... Okay, I'll accept that business is business and that this is not necessarily of any relevance. Still, I don't have to be over the moon about his NED appointment to AVN. | jimbo55
