I've never voted in an election in my life because they are all the > same as each other. > Given that it seems to have fallen on the news, you could say quite a lot! I'm staying in, but in my view, I'm not as keen on a company having such a lowlife on the board. I can see why he's been taken on, but it would have been nicer if it hadn't been him! I definitely don't agree that all politicians are the same. There are varying degrees of scumbags out there. This guy is one of the worst kind in my view. Also, not wanting to get political but if the majority don't bother voting in elections, how can you expect things to ever change for the better? You're just granting a green light to taxpayer-milking in my opinion. Personally, I reckon sticking a few selective heads up on spikes would send a far clearer message. I'll leave it there anyway.............. | jimbo55
17/6/2008 09:24 | If I was selling space stuff to governments I think I would like to have a former space minister on my side ! What the heck does anyone's view of politics have to do with AVN's share price anyway ? I've never voted in an election in my life because they are all the same as each other. But given the imminence of another decade of Tory government, this timing all looks quite tasty to me. | terryebby
17/6/2008 01:19 | The bloke appears to have the moral integrity of a rat IMO. Still, I guess Avanti have taken him on for his political connections rather than personal charm/likeability, as they seem to be chasing government contracts at this point in time. | jimbo55
16/6/2008 14:29 | Ooops!!!! That new Director looks a bit political..... and with two black crosses to his name. A warning combination - IMHO | piedro
16/6/2008 14:19 | New non-exec appointed, but whether our first bird makes it to geostationary next spring successfully in one piece is much more important to the share price in the next year than the "geo-politics of the global space industry". | sirlurkalot
06/6/2008 12:00 | Director Dealing, Contract Win, Contract Win. Who says investing is difficult? This share price is heading the same way as those satellites. | steveofsw19
06/6/2008 11:39 | Small, but perfectly formed. Seems to have passed by unremarked... RNS Number : 0174W Avanti Communications Group Plc 05 June 2008 Date: 5 June 2008 On behalf of: Avanti Communications Group plc ("Avanti" or "the Company") Embargoed until: 0700hrs Avanti Communications Group plc Contract Win Avanti Communications Group Plc (AIM: AVN), the satellite operator, has been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to perform a EUR200,000 project to develop concepts for a European wide satellite based alerting system. The proposed system will make use of satellite communications solutions to alert and instruct European citizens in times of natural or man made crises and disasters such as floods, fires, industrial incidents or acts of terrorism. The project is part of preparatory activities for a new programme initiated by the ESA jointly with the European Commission, which aims to promote satellite based telecom services for the benefit of European Civil Protection. David Williams, Chief Executive of Avanti, said: "Satellite communication has a key role to play in the area of crisis management and business continuity. Satellite based solutions have the ability to serve wide areas, including users in remote and rural areas and have the ability to remain operational when other terrestrial networks fail. We have a strong record of working with ESA to develop and commercialise satellite services. This project has identified a very compelling niche service which is nonetheless global and could consume significant satellite resources." | sivadnoj
30/5/2008 12:37 | well, if your all going, id better start selling.... | currypasty
29/5/2008 23:07 | SG - You may find that management have some very favourable views as to the company value so they might not be looking up the funny farm address for you ! I spoke to David Williams in 2006 and afterwards was able to come up with a valuation of £8-£10 per share on HYLAS 1. Since then pricing has increased and the revenues are nearer but their cost of capital must be higher too. Even with that, I think the potential value could still be valid. Then (obviously pre credit crunch) the thought was that HYLAS 2 would be financed against the contractual revenues of HYLAS 1 and I'm sure that financing route will still exist even if the cost is now higher. David Williams then and almost certainly now, was not looking to have any more significant dilution - remember he's looking to make a bigger fortune from Avanti than we are. | aa29
29/5/2008 18:49 | Terry,I'm not daft enough to believe the logic that led to that figure,The original post was Steve,255,I was pointing out the theory was defective. If i put the point to management i think they would send for a straight jacket and have me sectioned.:-) | sg31
29/5/2008 15:50 | SG have you looked management in the eyeball and asked the $45 a share question ? | terryebby
28/5/2008 21:23 | SirL,I have a lot of these already, far more than i would normally,Every time i think i have enough the share price goes down a bit and i get tempted again.I have had a long position here since before the split.I know you shouldn't fall in love with a stock....its just a platonic relationship....hone | sg31
28/5/2008 20:29 | sg, Well if it makes you want to buy more of the shares, who am I to stop you! | sirlurkalot
28/5/2008 20:27 | SirLurkalot, you are of course right but i like steves logic,If HYLAS 2 triples our post HYLAS 1 market cap to £15 per share then HYLAS 3 should triple it again to £45 per share......By the same logic HYLAS 4 should triple it again to £135.Now your talking Steve..............o | sg31
28/5/2008 20:25 | I've updated the header with the summary of all the recent broker's notes I have. If anyone out there has any other broker's notes, please let me know. | sirlurkalot
28/5/2008 20:15 | The link to the other (more popular) Avanti Comms thread is Everyone is obviously most welcome to join in over there, including of course Currypasty. | sirlurkalot
28/5/2008 15:11 | As ive been in Avanti for 4 years, and before the split, ill probably hang arround here a while longer, if you dont mind | currypasty
28/5/2008 15:07 | Steady on Steve! Hylas 2 and 3 need to be financed, which would either be via placing/rights (= dilution of current shareholders) or vendor financing (the user of the bandwidth puts up the cash to build, so in effect Avanti would basically just gets something like a royalty for use of their geostationary position) | sirlurkalot
28/5/2008 11:26 | If HYLAS 2 is likely to triple our post HYLAS 1 mkt cap to around 15 pounds per share Could HYLAS 3 triple our mkt cap again? It would value us at 1.5 billion and £45 per share. Not obscene if we were making profits of 100 million or so, which in itself is not too unrealistic with three satellites covering most of the globe. | steveofsw19 |
