Nobody likes to see ones profits slipping away but we all know shares never go up in a straight line......well not forever anyway.....As you have pointed out Melody the interim report last week is what one should concentrate on which painted a good picture for the future.

A similar thing happened last year to the share price. It peaked late 2009 at 550 and then slowly drifted back to around 420 in March 2010, losing around 23%...Then it rocketed like there was no tomorrow!

Must be a seller out there. Otherwise its noise being created that AVN will face increasing competition. But remember the interim report 1 week ago:

"The demand for our services is very strong and our pipeline of opportunities continues to grow. The order book (also known as "backlog" in our industry) across the two satellites now totals £229 million with the average length of contracts being 7.2 years for HYLAS 1 and 4.3 years for HYLAS 2. The average prices per MHz per month are materially ahead of expectations. The pipeline of potential new business in negotiation amounts to £389m, not including transactions which are under negotiation to support the efficient debt financing of HYLAS 3."

I am not saying there will not be increasing competition in the future. But there will also be increasing demand. AVN are ahead of the game, signed orders, good contract lengths. That tells me:
1 industry experts (buyers) see AVN as a great solution
2 they are locking in reasonable length contracts because they do not see alternatives appearing anytime soon. (and when I say 'they' I mean the buyers)

So - looks like a seller to me - once they are done the share price should recover.

Advfn have the buys at 2:1 to sells!!!

However, it seems that you cannot even rely on these statistics anymore.

I have to say one thing for Superg1, his posts almost always coincide with a softening in the price of Avanti.

Nellie- it seems everyman and his dog is tipping AVN!

which makes the current share price movement so frustrating!

I take your point Gorv,
But if someone consistently takes up loads of room on the board with drivel, and re-hashing some old scare story ideas which are intended to freak out holders, then I see the filter button as a useful tool.

I don't post very oftern, as I haven't anything profound to add to the discussion. I'm aware of that, and hence my few and far between postings.

All the best,
John W

Surely you see the negatives to filtering every bearish poster on here....it'll just end up the blind leading the blind eventually if we all did that.

Oh no, not this one again.
Haven't we been down this path a hundred times already?
With everyone and his aunt agreeing that it's not worth responding, as it only fills up the thread with reasonable responses to inane shorting suggestions!

Isn't the 'Filter' facility a fantastic invention.

SuperG1, I agree with you about technology popping up everywhere and that is one of the threats to AVN.

However there are huge areas of Uk and rest of Europe, Africa & the Mddle East that not only can't get terrestial broadband (as you can), but it is highly likely to remain economically unviable to achieve this, and this will probably remain the case, due to extreme remoteness, well into the future.

In addition, AVN also targets businesses with a fall back system re back up. As has been stated before here, this is potentially huge business as, by definition, back up is only occasionally needed e.g. when someone digs up a cable in the road. Accordingly, AVN can sell a specific quantity of user space in the knowledge that it it would be exremely rare for more than a few clients to use all the bandwidth at any time.

Finally they will no doubt have space set aside/sold for govn't/ military etc, although I accept that this will be hard to value as I am sure that details will be kept to a minimum.

I think that this is a great stock for the next 3-4 years, but with the caveat that shareholders must keep their eyes on emerging technology, as I am sure AVN will be doing as well.

Superg, your anecdotal evidence is good and the promising competing technology as yet unproven looks good, however

i wouldnt be too quick to cast this stock out of hand. there are plenty of stocks at the moment with big research behind them that are 20% off their highs. i consider this an opportunity.

Cable v satellite

I'm in one of those rural areas without cable. The broadband is fine. Both children playing online gaqmes with no probs which can't be achieved via satellite.

So why would I want sat BB with less performance and costing more. ???.

Line rental, free phone calls 24/7 to landlines, and unlimited BB download calls all for £20. I'm quite happy.

As for competeing technology it is popping up everywhere. On church steeples, Cable via bt telephone posts and this little gadget on the way.
