Canacord note out on copper. Suggests it will quickly test it's all tie high of $4.63.

Ditto GS " Goldman warning of a big deficit this year ICYMI. "We continue to forecast the largest deficit in 10 years in 2021 (327kt), followed by an open-ended phase of deficits as peak copper supply (2023/24) and a record 10-year supply gap on the horizon."

Morning all ATYMers, hope you had a good weekend

Copper on a clip again this morning. Can it sustain its rise this week or consolidate?

Either way, over $4 is super news for likes of ATYM.....

Cheers

Thanks all re the tips above. Much appreciated.

Just cut and pasted this from CAML thread. Interesting re copper price.

Not a fan of ZeroHedge but:

"... it is only a matter of time before we see a new all time high. Indeed, overnight copper extended its surge to a nine-year high as Goldman Sachs warned of a historic shortage with "the market now on the cusp of the tightest phase in what we expect to be the largest deficit in a decade" as Chinese buying "triggers the next leg higher" adding to expectations that prices will near a record sooner rather than later. Here are some highlights from a note published overnight by Goldman analyst Nicholas Snowdon:"

Thanks Rob, super excited about ATYM and the value it could start accruing to us all as shareholders!

Telegraph today had talk on copper price hitting a sweet spot, especially with China & electric car demand etc. Should hold above $4 and head towards $5 IMO making copper plays in a great spot to make serious hay and pay some serious divis....

DYOR and GLA!

PS anyone got any copper plays that have not run away too much?

The general director of Energy Planning and Natural Resources, Paula Uría, held an online meeting this morning with representatives of this industry

The objective is to turn the Community into an attractive place to invest, betting on an agile and modern administration that responds to new challenges

Atalaya should be receiving grants for the ELix system Rob, probably not the Solar farm as the output is all for self consumption.

The "next generation" deal is part of the €1.8 trillion stimulus package to generate growth ..

THis is part of the same package Galicia want to use to kick start and promote mining

As mentioned by The President of the Diputacion yesterday..

hxxps://www.huelvainformacion.es/provincia/presidenta-Diputacion-muestra-colaboracion-publico-privada_0_1548447066.html

María Eugenia Limón has visited a new technological innovation project applied to mining and that could benefit from the projects collected by the 'Next Generation' Office of the Recovery Plan to channel the capture and management of European funds that will be destined to the province of Huelva. It is an industrial plant based on a new metallurgical technology developed in Rio Tinto by Lain Technologies, with the support of Atalaya, and named E-LIX. The new plant would process part of the concentrate that is currently produced in the Huelva operation , which contains 23% metal, to produce a minimum of 10,000 tons of pure copper.

The exciting thing is that we are expecting a fair bit of news flow over the next 2 months which could add a lot of valueResource and reserves upgrade (overdue since end of Q3 last year) Project Touro news by end of March - be great to have second copper mine past the environmental permit stage ELix feasibility study outcome by end of March (could be a game changer as we could produce pure copper ourselves without the need for smelting) 2020 financials - April (record results due) 2021 q1 operational update - early April (should be a record quarter for ebitda) Solar farm permitting update Drilling progress at masa valverde (maybe H2)

QS99 - Estimates for ebitda in 2020 were around €73m when Avg cu price was $2.80 and all in sustaining costs c$2.20. Assuming costs remain roughly the same then a cu price of $4 would give c€220m. Tripling ebitda would be a nice trick! Now volume produced is due to be down from 55ktpa to 53ktpa but I'm wondering if that could be offset if we find some cost savings. Even if not, it's still there or there abouts. Interesting that Citigroup were forecasting cu prices of $4.50-5.50 in 2021/22! https://seekingalpha.com/article/4407191-copper-price-call-highlights-base-metals-bull-market

Wondering if we will see a consolidation of miners in the Pyrite Belt..

Matsa apparently looking into a 2billion sale as in recent media reports

...Cobre las Cruces is owned by First Quantum, they're attracting interest from Chinese Co's as they are a pure copper play, if you go back to 2020 there were rumours of a tie in with Atalaya ( reported also)...Las Cruces isn't going to produce again for a year or so..

BTW...The company they don't mention in the article.....Emerita Resources...

Have also been buying a Lithium producer, RockTech RJB.F RCK.TSX

February 25, 2015. The Junta de Andalucía announces that the bidding process to reopen the Aznalcóllar mines has been resolved with the award to the group formed by the Spanish company Minorbis and the Mexican Grupo México. The loser, another large Canadian multinational, feeling harmed, filed a legal claim, which has lasted six years. This news brought hope to the town of Aznalcóllar, because it seemed that the mine would operate again, generating jobs and wealth. The new mine is estimated to have a useful life of 25 years. It would employ about 2,000 workers.

The public and international tender, based on rigorous compliance with the new sustainable, ecological mining, environmental impact, new measures security, was one of the tools of the Junta de Andalucía to reactivate the once powerful Andalusian mining, generating wealth and work, much needed after the great crisis. In Aznalcóllar, unemployment was 32%.
It is logical to think and that is how I have personally verified (working in that mine for 16 years) the enthusiasm and hope that all the people had for their neighbors to continue making a living in deposits that have been exploited since ancient times.

Thus, the disappointment and despair of these people, with the mayor at the helm, and of many other companies, is easily understandable after verifying that, for the third time, Justice has once again paralyzed the project. And that on two previous occasions (6.11.2015 and 11.03.2019) the magistrate filed the case, not finding the Civil Guard, the Prosecutor's Office, or the other parties, evidence or indications of illegality, and saying in the car that "The dispute was due to purely administrative matters."

We will not enter into the tedious legal battle that has lasted six long years, which can be reviewed in the local press archive. The number of complaints, cars, files, statements, maintained by the litigants, led by the losing company in the contest, environmentalists, winners, Prosecutor's Office, Provincial Court, Anti-corruption, etc. is tremendous.

Here the only ones who win are the law firms and the one who loses is the town of Aznalcóllar, the workers and companies in the area. There is a saying that Justice, if it is late, is not Justice.

Most people don't care who is right or wrong. They just want the Justice to act quickly, and they ask the authorities to give a definitive solution to the conflict and the mine can be opened again.

It is worth noting the effort that the current winning company has been making in those six years, investing resources and money in doing research and caring for the environment, with personnel it has hired, without knowing if they will finally be able to exploit the mine and obtain its logical benefit.

The safe reserves of the Los Frailes field (there are so-called probable reserves) are about 40 million tns. of complex pyrites, which contain about 180,000 tns. of copper, 950,000 tns. of lead, 1,360,000 of zinc and about 270 tons. of silver, all for a value of more than 5,000 M euros, at current prices. Today copper is trading at 6,900 euros / t.

In addition, and this is a personal opinion, there is great synergy between this mine and its neighbor Cobre las Cruces. It would be very beneficial for both companies and also for future projects near the Iberian Pyrite Belt.

Matsa is an example of mining technologies, at the forefront of the world. Atalaya in Río Tinto is another example. And Cobre las Cruces has patented a polymetallic refinery, where copper cathodes, lead zinc and silver ingots would be obtained, which would greatly increase the 'added value'.

What nature has created in the mine would be completely transformed into it. A strategic agreement between the two companies would be a great advance to put much more value on the wealth that the Pyrite Strip holds, mostly in Andalusia.

Unfortunately, in Spain we do not have companies with the economic strength (if not the technological one) to carry out projects of this magnitude, but we know that the majority of those 5,000 M euros would stay in Seville, and Andalusia, in the form of taxes, hand of work, workshops, construction companies, spare parts, electricity, explosives, fuels, social works, etc. For all these reasons, I join the thousands of people who yearn for a prompt solution to this tremendous judicial gibberish, which perhaps when it is solved, the metal market conditions will make the project unviable.

We ask the administrations that, respecting, as it cannot be otherwise, the judicial procedures, they can close the matter by declaring the company that is the definitive contractor, so that the public interest prevails over the legitimate private interests.

Common sense demands it.
