CU price aside, I think this rise can be attributed to the updated EBITDA that robmcelf2 spotted previously. Was reason enough for me to add at the time, cheers rob!

Please note AtYM have published an updated Company presentation on their website. I note estimated EBITA for 2021 is $155m (slide 32) vs I think it was estimated to be around €73m for 2020. Obviously only an estimate, but that would be an impressive step forward.

Separately, Cobas asset management seem to be quite bullish about ATYM in press articles dated yesterday and they seem particularly impressed with the potential of the new ELix system.

Let’s hope they are right. Roll on resources update - surely got to be released in Feb...

Seems a very willing buyer out there. Although not many holdings rnss.
If I didn't know that the company structure makes a bid very difficult, I'd be expecting one to come based on the large and frequent buys which have gone through.
I've Sold a few on the way up, but still holding about 50% of my max.
Share price and copper seem to have very strong support.
Have no idea where these could reach, but happy to hold a little longer.

Also potentially if this concept prove to be a successful operation
Atalaya can license the process to other miners and make morw money of course as a a joint venture with the developer

I hope they are not giving away the IP to the developer
This should be kept as a join inovation as they sponsored the developer.
More comes out i am sure

This is very interesting being a engineer myself know a bit about the complex process of extraction and if this give some unique separation method at lower carbon costs and seperate out metals of desire yield and quality then this could be really big if proved to be successful.

However the proof of concept should be implemented at larger scale unit operations and not just be judged based on pilot plant (usually scale up is very challanging) but all steps in the right directions and i like it and fully support these kind of bold environmental move.

Thanks for sharing and giving your views on this

To be honest, I'd not really paid much attention, but they have rights over the process in Spain/Portugal, so might be an unexpected revenue stream? It would also be of great help in getting Toro moving, given it's seems quite green (in truth I've n idea if it is or isn't)

"During the past five years Atalaya has provided financial assistance to Lain Tech to develop the E-LIX System and has now reached an agreement with Lain Tech to use its patents, on an exclusive licence basis within the Iberian pyrite belt in Spain and Portugal ("Licence Agreement")."

Hi Estinne

I have been studying Copper charts and it is looking so strong and bullish
This stock will follow copper price move mainly because we are production company for couple of years now and every single penny rise on copper will be equal to $$$$ for ATYM. Simple as that, so the impact is immediate as far as market goes.

If we were explorer the impact would have been less but now will be massive.
I really like what i see in the chart and i truly feel we will have another couple of push left in it before stabilises at around 3.50/3.60 mark.
Another push yet to come i say.
Amazing times and amazing stock to invest in.

I can see some small pies taking profits and getting out which i actually love to see that and we might still close up positive today

Fund managers are piling up on copper stocks

Putting a "value" on the mining..

Further down it mentions Emerita, up around 75% this week ...IMO, although legally they should get the concession at Aznalcollar I bet it goes out to tender again Already lots of negative media reports against them, same style as when EMED was in its infancy)..same, same with the current/new ongoing corruption and slush funds in operation in Andalucia

Pomodoro, the great operation
Adecade ago, modern mining crystallized in Andalusia with the reopening of Aguas Teñidas (Matsa) and the start of Cobre Las Cruces; a process that Riotinto (Atalaya Mining) later joined after a long and tortuous resurrection. This "poker" had to be completed with the start-up of Aznalcóllar (thanks to the contest called by former president Susana Díaz), although the judicial vicissitudes complicated everything.

In terms of investment and employment, the impact of mining has been very relevant, and now a process is taking place that will make it possible to measure the value of the companies that have been generated in these years. How much is a mining project in Andalusia worth? Abu Dhabi and the Swiss giant Trafigura, owners of Matsa, have put this firm up for sale for 1.8 billion. If we estimate that the neighboring Atalaya may have a price close to 600 million, it shows a combined price that is equal to that of some Ibex companies.
Right now there are two mining axes. In the north, Matsa and Riotinto are operating at full capacity and making new discoveries in their environment. Their expansion plans are, at times, in close quarters, with which they will have to cooperate in the future (they already have, in fact, shareholders in common, since Trafigura owns 50% of Matsa and 22% of Riotinto). In the south the situation is more complex. Cobre Las Cruces (in the hands of the Canadian First Quantum) is closing its mine and undertaking, in parallel, the procedures for the opening of another different project that implies an investment of 500 million. Aznalcóllar (from Grupo México) starts from scratch and must also make a millionaire outlay.

With today's technology, four large mining operators in nearby areas (and each developing its own industrial capabilities) may be too many. Fabled, the sale of Matsa may be the beginning of a consolidation in the Pyrite Belt that leads to the forging of a hegemonic company. The "old rockers" of Andalusian mining assure that there are potential mineral reserves to operate profitably in the next four decades. A great leader based in Andalusia could be listed simultaneously on the London and Madrid stock exchanges and serve as a basis for growth in other latitudes (hand in hand with professionals and suppliers from Seville and Huelva).

The surreal point is the judicial drift to which the sector is heading. The Aznalcóllar contest was resolved in favor of Grupo México in 2015, but the complaint of the Emérita micro-company (expelled from areas such as Cantabria for failing to fulfill its financial commitments) opened an investigation process that is still open six years later. Six years ... Regardless of who is right, it is an embarrassing period that has muddied the administrative processing of many other mining projects. If it ever resolves, it will be the other starting point for creating the "champion" the Pyrite Girdle needs.

Eva Lain: "We can make a difference so that a deposit is viable or not"

Atalaya Mining could produce pure copper at the foot of the mine in a year and a half thanks to a new method devised by a young doctor in Electrochemistry in England doing a PhD in Electrochemistry at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge.
I began to focus my research on leaching and, when I saw it clearly, I decided to patent it and come to Riotinto to test it at the foot of the mine. Until then he had not stepped on a mine
.

Her name is Eva María Lain. She has a PhD in Electrochemistry from the University of Cambridge and the founder and owner of Lain Technologies. Its patent on a new metallurgical method would allow Atalaya Mining to produce copper at the mine site in the historic and legendary Riotinto, marking a turning point in the Minera Basin, and making profitable old operations closed decades ago.

You are not yet 30 years old. He speaks five languages, among which Chinese stands out. Throughout his academic career he has won numerous awards, such as the Young Talents Scholarship in Physics, when he was barely 18 years old. He plays the violin and the piano. Riotinto is the first mine that he steps on in practice. Until now I had only experimented in academic life.

In the first interview he gives to a media outlet, he tells us how he got to Riotinto, what E-LIX consists of, how is this novel process of obtaining copper, what are its main differences with existing methods, its compatibility with the Environment Atmosphere, and to what extent it can mark a before and after in the legendary mines of Riotinto and, therefore, in the entire Pyrite Belt.

How did you get to Riotinto?

-I was in England doing a PhD in Electrochemistry at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge. I began to focus my research on leaching and, when I saw it clearly, I decided to patent it and come to Riotinto to test it at the foot of the mine. Until then he had not stepped on a mine. My experience was limited to research in laboratories in the academic world, with 200 ml bottles. We have now shown that the process works in 10 cubic meter tanks. We have increased the scale 50,000 times. So this for me is totally new.

-What is E-LIX?

-It is a novel process for the leaching of primary minerals. Leaching is the solution of the metals contained in the mineral. Traditionally there are two ways, hydrometallurgy, which is dissolution, and pyrometallurgy, which is foundry. Those more oxidized minerals that have been in contact with air and water can be treated in the first way, but the primaries that are very hard are treated by smelting. This method is an alternative to the first route that can be used at the mine site to reach final copper without going to the smelter.

-What percentage of purity would this “pure copper” reach and how would its production process be?

-Depending on how far we want to go in the process, it can be one purity or another, but ideally it would be grade A cathodes of 5 nines, that is, 99.999% copper. What makes it possible to reach this grade is a standard solvent extraction and electrodeposition process downstream of the leaching process. But really the novel process is the leaching part, upstream of this extraction. The problem is that these metals are very difficult to attack. It is very difficult to dissolve the metal contained in the mineral. Once dissolved the metal problem solved. And this is what we have done.

-To what extent would it be compatible with the environment?

-It is a green process that does not generate emissions. It also does not use water or acids. It represents a 180 degree turn compared to other types of hydrometallurgical processes that use very aggressive conditions. It is a very clean and safe process because it does not use temperature or pressure. Despite its technological complexity, it is very easy to handle at an operational level.

What is its main difference with current technology?

-The mine currently produces a final concentrate that has a copper grade of approximately 23%. It is transported to the port of Huelva. And from there, most of it is taken to China for smelting. If the new process were implemented on an industrial scale in the Riotinto mine, the philosophy would change because we would produce final copper at the mine site. The process would start and end at the mine. Everything would stay at home.

-What would the industrial plant be like in which you would develop this process and what investment would you need to start it up?

-In December 2019 we took out the first copper cathode in the pilot plant. We have been working on the project for a year. The method is more than proven. We have gone through all the necessary steps to get here, from a laboratory scale to a pilot plant where we operate with 10 cubic meter tanks. The process works continuously. Now we are fine-tuning and optimizing. We are considering the idea of building a plant to treat 10,000 tons of copper per year.

Lain highlights the cleanliness and safety of the processLain highlights the cleanliness and safety of the process
-When could it be up and running?

-The deadlines that we consider are four or five months to complete the feasibility study. Then it will depend on when the Council wants to "jump into the pool" because once we receive the go-ahead we will move forward quickly. If all goes well, it could be a year or a year and a half from now.

-What factors will the viability of the project depend on?

-I believe in it. I am very excited. The numbers look great. It looks so good. There can always be an obstacle along the way, but for the moment everything that has arisen we have been solving. I don't see anything that could put any brake on the project. Sure you have to modify something, but I see that it looks very good. We are all very excited.

-To what extent could a turning point be marked in this historic mining operation?

-The philosophy of the mine would change because we would go from producing final concentrate, which currently has to be exported, to producing copper at the mine site. Everything would stay at home because it starts here and ends here. We would be producing the copper ourselves, Spain brand, we are proud.

-Can we be in the antechamber of a mining macro-factory in the Region, much higher than the one existing today?

-Let's go step by step. Let's go with caution. We have to demonstrate this technology on an industrial level. But it looks very good on a pilot scale.

- Could this new method make old farms like Alfredo in Riotinto or Rotilio in Nerva profitable?

The real value of this new technology will be demonstrated in old deposits where the mineral was not profitable. We can make a difference whether a deposit is viable or not. It could make deposits like Rotilio or Alfredo exploitable. That is where the true value of this technology lies.

Upgrades to Copper

Does this sound like a producer we know...

Equity positioning: With the ongoing strength in the industrial commodities
(particularly copper), the equities have demonstrated strong performance early in the
year. As seen in Figure 7, the best performing names to date have been the junior
producers. Despite all the hype around green energy-driven demand and concerns
around new supply, however, the copper developers have not yet caught a significant
bid.
We continue to advocate positioning in equities that offer leverage to commodity
price upside, but that also offer significant catalysts that could help mitigate downside
risk. Our preferred commodity exposure remains copper, given favourable medium term supply-demand fundamentals, potential near-term supply-side shocks, and
positive investor sentiment. As such, we prefer base metals producers with a significant
proportion of cash flow attributable to copper, as well as meaningful catalysts, and with
limited exposure to the jurisdictions prone to disruption in 2021

Copper poised to strengthen further: Copper prices are up 7% so far in 2021,
and the physical market is tighter than we have seen it at any time since the peak of
the last commodity cycle prior to the GFC. As Figures 2-6 show, both concentrate and
refined metal availability is extremely limited, and the cash-3m spreads are now firmly
in backwardation. With copper prices currently at ~$3.75/lb, we see three factors that
could propel the price firmly toward $4.00/lb in the near term.
..................................................................

Q!$3.75
Q2 $3.95
Q3 $3.50
Q4 $3.50

New targets assumptions for copper, as of today .. ( €9m to EBITA for every 10c/lb from $3.25)

ATYM's presentation had $155m EBITDA for 2021, but based on the long term copper price at date of their presentation (whatever that means!) which is up another c.10% IMO so do people think that ATYM could be pushing $200m EBITDA this year?

Going to be interesting what guidance they give, on the basis they do get their next results out in a timely fashion....

DYOR and all IMO

Thanks mate and good to know you are back again.
Also thanks for the update on Astor, i think they got the contract wrong and ATYM are standing their grounds based on what is on the contract which is to their favour (wordings)

In anycase with these level of confidence and cash generations as a result of copper metal price rising i really can't see anything to worry about.

i don't think anything will be concluded on Astor till Feb 2022.
By that time i wouldn't be surprised we be sitting on huge profits and share level around £7-8 driven not just by fundamentals of ATYM but also massive bullish copper price for 2021 and beyond. With all those assets, experience, production and excellent managements i really think this will be managed well and more good news around the corner

I just don't want to see too much investment on explorations being wasted.
We have done enough of those and the time is to sit on current asset and ride for a year or two. Those can be revisited in the future.

Diversifying in lithium and iridium could be something they should explore, that is what i would do if i was in charge.

For now lets enjoy the ride
It has been a long waiting for many but truly couldn't happen in any better way and it is looking very strong.

I really think heavy weights global assets management companies are coming to invest here
