03/12/2020 16:05 | logistics favours an Astra style drug if it is as effective as other vaccines.Johnson & Johnson are working on a vaccine with results expected in January. Not that i'm a great devotee of charts but just now the RSI suggests Astra is very oversold. | steeplejack

03/12/2020 15:33 | I agree Ash, the MMs are probably anticipating a rise when the vaccine is finally approved for emergency use. We can't keep paying a fortune for the US vaccines plus the huge extra costs for distribution and administering. Also there won't be enough doses of those in the time frame the Government have been promoting. | bountyhunter
03/12/2020 15:32 | “The shot developed by Oxford and AstraZeneca works like a more tradi-tional vaccine, introducing a weakened virus, in this case one found in chim-panzees, into the body to trigger immunity. It showed an efficacy range of 62% to 90%, depending on the dosage.”Wall St Journal 3 Dec In the U.K.,the Astra drug test results have been well received but in the US it is generally regarded that results fell short of other competing vaccines. This might have impacted sentiment at the same time as sterling strength has weakened off overseas traders and sector rotation has seen switching out of Covid defensives into recovery plays. | steeplejack
03/12/2020 15:27 | Methinks a big UT will appear at 4.30 today at 7800. MM's collecting as much stock as possible below this. Or am I just dreaming ? | ashwani01
03/12/2020 14:18 | Price action interesting. What is driving this down ? | ashwani01
03/12/2020 13:16 | That's fine, they will be struggling with distribution problems due to their vaccines very low temperature requirements while the UK and many other countries roll out the Oxford vaccine far and wide. The US will see the light in the end. | bountyhunter
03/12/2020 12:35 | U.K. will approve, I don't know about US. Perhaps more data. | montyhedge
03/12/2020 10:24 | we know Pfizers second part of jab must be 21 days after first and then 10 more days to given all clear, during which time full precautions must be taken, US medical staff just raising concerns that even minor side effects of first part of vaccine could put patients off taking second part, even a small percentage would be critical, and the unknown factor of how long any jab would be effective for, if ever a booster jab was needed? AZN won't face the massive logistical problems, and better suited to smaller individual vunerable groups, approval before yr end would still put them in pole position, to combat any shortage edit 2762 US deaths in last 24hrs, how can Dr. Fauci have a dig at UK approval | mike24
03/12/2020 01:53 | =========== Could it be as simple as a MEGADOSE of Vitamin C ? ============ Sepsis is associated with Covid-19 and many other viral infections Sepsis and Septic Shock are now the BIGGEST killer in the world and growing even though many death certificates do not show sepsis as it occured whilst in the hospital and thus many legal cases result. The use of MEGADOSES of vitamin C ( equivalent to thousands of oranges in a single treatment ) --- proved effective on animals with sepsis So when a very sick man with sepsis caused by Covid-19 , suffering kidney failure and basically on his way out was given the Megadose of Vitamin C as used on animals --- low and behold it worked --- and a few weeks later he was out of Hospital when previously the doctors were expecting him to die. IF this works on other cases of people with Sepsis or those going on mechanical ventilators --- very high risk --- then buywell thinks many businesses that are currently seeking a cure --- vaccine makers --- mass testing ---- could ALL LOSE BIGTIME | buywell3
02/12/2020 20:58 | Not yet but could be very soon. | bountyhunter
02/12/2020 14:46 | No further trials needed or has this vaccine been approved? | mcbull
02/12/2020 08:38 | buywell thought some might be wondering about all these BIG efficacy percentages that vaccine makers have been putting out there. This is a $10 Billion market per year And there is now a mad scramble to get first foot in the door taking place --- BUT Is all the hype warranted ? --- buywell thinks not and has been posting WHY on BUY However consider this: When somebody first gets vaccinated their body creates a huge number of plasma blasts. These are temporary cells and they live in the blood and create huge numbers of antibodies. The measurements of efficacies of recent vaccines has been carried out which matches the temporary life span of these cells --- hence the 90% plus efficacies . This what efficacy remains after 3 months or 6 months after the temporary plasma blast cells die off remains unknown Because the FDA in the USA is now being pressured to give 'emergency approval' by Trump and others --- it seems likely they will get it imo. Also because USA Hospitals are now being overwhelmed with rising cases on a daily basis and Nurses there are also now going sick ie their Hospital System is on the brink of meltdown and the surge on the surge as Fauci puts it ( buywell says wave 4 ) is coming due to Thanksgiving celebrations and associated travel of millions of asymptomatic covid carriers to and from all parts of all states. The need of a vaccine that works has never been greater --- yet That need is growing greater with each and every day that passes and the vaccine sits in storage some at -80 degrees in special freezers and some in normal type freezers --- it is planned to first get used on nurses and doctors and front line Hospital and Healthcare workers --- a very high risk move ( see BUY post ) However even if the FDA gives a vaccine the emergency nod Many USA States will then independently look at the issue and decide for themselves So more built in delay And still Covid-19 mutates away on the quiet --- always seeking another reservoir of life into which it can insert itself ie mink, cats, dogs and many others --- see BUY posts Hence there is coming buywell believes; quite soon , a time when current vaccines will be rendered useless as another mutated zoonotic type from another animal takes the leap back into man as many from mink already have , ie several mutated types with one of more concern says the WHO than the rest. Should that happen that $10 Billion a year vaccine Gold Mine could come crashing down | buywell3
02/12/2020 08:27 | That's the one I want, not the Astra vaccine, needs more data. | montyhedge
01/12/2020 18:22 | LONDON — Britain could become the first Western country to approve a coronavirus vaccine, with the highest hopes resting on Pfizer's candidate and the homegrown offering from Oxford University and AstraZeneca. Can't post the full link but it's in the Washington Post: [...] | bountyhunter
01/12/2020 08:25 | I think that the sale of the Crestor drug in Europe for $320m is a good piece of business. Agree that the monies reinvested into the pipeline is likely to be a better return. | our haven
01/12/2020 07:56 | The flu vaccine is updated every year, the Covid vaccine may need to be too. Possibly the annual flu vaccine could be combined with an updated Oxford vaccine in future years as with vaccines against different flu strains. That may be another advantage of the Astra Oxford vaccine given it's far more similar to the annual flu jab than the US mRNA vaccines. | bountyhunter
01/12/2020 00:33 | Famous last words. It is mutating. There will be further waves and further vaccine development imho. A lot of work long into the future imho. | freddie ferret

30/11/2020 18:13 | Rather a large sale at the close. £196M. | ashwani01
29/11/2020 19:01 | The US must be way down the queue for the Astra Oxford vaccine having relied entirely on their own home grown vaccines and the UK due to receive the first 100m doses from Astra. The US population is ~330m so that's 660m doses required and they don't have anywhere near that many doses of the US vaccines yet as far as I know so how come they're immediately supplying a few million doses to the UK? Guinea pigs? I hope not!! As for the Astra Oxford vaccine as it's traditional technology similar to flu vaccines there should be a decent uptake. I would have it tomorrow if offered to me confident in the knowledge that not one person who received the vaccine in the trials ended up with a severe case if Covid. That's 100% protection from hospitalisation or death from Covid-19 and most likely from long Covid too. | bountyhunter |
