Someone commented to me that the global equity markets are rather like the roadrunner when he dashes over the cliff and his legs keep rotating before he finally realises he's in mid air and plummets to earth.Equities are something of a default option currently but valuations for many cyclicals are simply ignoring the fact that business is not going to bounce back to normal for many months if not years.A fund manager said to me many years ago that brokers are generally in the business of advising their customers to sell good performing quality stocks and switching into rather poor quality hazardous ones.I wonder why.

Tend to agree. UBS today reiterated it's Sell recommendation today. This is a near weekly occurance for the past month with a price target of £6! They certainly called that wrong, big time and these guys get paid!

Oilers starting to look overbought on a TA basis and AZN oversold so the sector rotation may reverse again?

Incidentally,all the pharmaceuticals are down today from Glaxo to Smith & Nephew to Hikma.It suits the brokers to trigger further sector rotation.They'd like nothing better than to encourage sales of a big ticket stock like Astra Zeneca.

I doubt it given what's been said but maybe AZN should put out a statement clarifying things.

Analysts are always critical of capex on acquisitions however, their knowledge of the industry is rarely as key as that of the insiders!

The merger of Astra and Zeneca was made around the same time in 1999 and since then,the market cap of the combined group has ONLY doubled in dollar terms.I think it’s too early for Astra Zeneca to contemplate a further merger.Afterall,it’s only in last couple of years that shareholders have become convinced that rejecting the Pfizer bid was the correct course of action.i guess the Gilead speculation has been out there for awhile and has helped to depress the stock price as the market has concurrently moved towards cyclicals.

Glaxo bought Smith Kline Beecham 22 years ago, shares surged to 23 pounds, 22 years later GSK shareprice below that day 22 years ago, so in 22 years no growth in shareprice and will be like it for the next 22 years. So not a good idea for Astra to bid for Gilead in my opinion.

PS has a strong investment track record whilst at the helm at AZ, he seems a smart cookie so I wouldn't be surprised to see the share price start to regain some momentum again?

With Bill Gates comitting to AZ's vaccine with him and his Mrs 'hard earned' seems to me that there is some degree of validity in it.

Sold Pennon to be fully invested here again, with more shares this time. Thought it had peaked for now at 93 quid and appears it had, but further downside from here looks limited.

Forgotten how stressful trying to second guess the market could be. Not recommended!

So the vaccine is already being manufactured. AZN will not make any profit from it but will share the financial risk. Its great to see a company being altruistic. If it works it will be a huge boost for the UK Oxford and the reputation of AZN.
