Mac...

Perhaps you forgot about Brexit?

The pound stood at $1.50(ish) back in June... AFTER Brexit, it went down to $1.23-1.26 range...

Dollars converted into pounds at current exchange rates will therefore increase the turnover, and profits (If any) on revenue posted AFTER this event... Such a major move could make something like a narrow margin into a sizeable one...

In January (if you are to believe Jim Rickards/Doug Casey) the World Monetary System is likely to undergo an overhaul as the Dollar loses its "Reserve Status"

The International dollar we've known since 1971 will go the way of the Dodo, as the BRICS who are due to get enough votes in the IMF basket - over 15% - to VETO any proposals, will request a move away from the dollar, and the dollarisation we've seen for over 40 years will be replaced by the SDR.

In the SDR will be the basket of currencies currently there - plus GOLD - upto 40%...

That will mean more Central Banks will have to hold it, and there will be a requirement to audit it by other Nations so that we avoid the situation we've endured these last 40+ years - where one currency can manipulate economic power.

So... What price Dollar/Gold then? Even Nickel will be re-priced. And the Zim economy, will nose-dive, dependent as it is on the U.S. dollar... So maybe Mugabe will get pushed out for his total incompetence - the Army, Police and civil servants, are not getting paid regularly, and if their wages are devalued again, that might be the straw that breaks the camel's back in Zimbabwe?

And what might replace the dollar in the U.S.? FEDcoin... (a block-chain replacement for the dollar, apart from notes upto and including $50.00) or as Gerald Celenté calls it... "The sheistdollar".

(Remember the €500 note? The 500 and 1,000 Rupee notes?) Even the British £50.00 is on the way out... And digitization is being pushed as fast as the bankers can legitimately do it...

Gonna be an interesting year...

So... MERRY XMAS TO ONE AND ALL...

You really aren't as smart as you think Redtrend. You're trying to imply I was ramping a price of 40p. A twenty bagger for me when I made the post you're referring to was just shy of 8p which wouldn't be a stretch at all with favourable commodity prices, a smelter running efficiently and a refiner. So I stand by that post made with the information I had at the time. As an investor though, if you're too inflexible to react to a changed outlook you're dead meat. Back then the smelter was due to be running by March 2017. Now we know it was never going to be profitable at current Trojan production and nickel prices. To be fair that had been flagged up by others who went unheeded in the usual fashion on here when you aren't saying what peeps want to hear. If the smelter was going to be profitable at current price/volume it would be up and running by now. They've had the time and the bond money to build it but it hasn't happened. If you can't see they've kicked the can down the road for another year with bond payments deferred you're emotionally attached to the prospect of riches with ASA. As things stand the nickel assets are heading more in the direction of the bondholders than the benefit of shareholders. That could change again, it's all about evaluating risk and reward. Merry Christmas to all except the spivs.

So I take it I didn't make the MacGregor family Christmas card list?

When you talk about this being a 20 bagger or more in late Sept when share price was over 2p, implying a 40p+ share price and then do a complete U-turn (the irony) and now even state the smelter can not be profitable, there's a slight whiff of something coming from your direction and it aint roses...

In short-term in final phase of smelter refurb I take your point on additional debt or cash, already stated my concerns in previous post, so lets see what happens. Depends how good this quarter has been, where spot prices are going and whether or not ASA received or will receive the USD 3.6m+ insurance claim.

Anyho I share Mreasygoing's sentiments, bullish or bearish on ASA, gold, nickel, girl's best friends and those moo cows in Zimbabwe getting slaughtered in SA, all the best to everyone over Christmas and happy new year.

It is amazing how people can see black when it is white.
Having done my own extensive research I am very excited about this Co's future.
It is well diversified and has stated that cash flow & bank facilities will finance its ongoing development plans.
With both Freda & BNC profitable, the sizeable insurance claim, the plan to increase throughput & reduce costs further this financial year, the 2016/2017 out-turn should imo support a share price of c. 5p.
But the potential in 2017/2018 looks really exciting, especially if we get leverage from gold & nickel & Zani starts production.
The Board have already proved they are up to the task & have made some amazing steps forward since the previous debacle.
The list of potential positive value enhancing news is very impressive.
Good luck everyone & have a great Christmas.
DYOR of course.

Merry Christmas to all the genuine guys and gals on here. It's my belief that 2017 is going to be a fantastic year for ASA. Hold on tight when it breaks out from 2.7p area.

Asia and India are the big buyer of gold and they won't be buying as much if trump does what he says he is going to do to their exports into the USA. In fact they may well sell some.

I don't think mining companies in steady state should trade at 10x PER's

Remember they are producing the E by digging up their Assets and selling them.

It's like a Company winding down ops unless there is expansionary capex/exploration to more than replace the scarce resource that has been mined and sold

Most miners for that reason tend to trade on single digit PER

4-5p remains a legitimate medium term target based on Net Tangible Assets but not a PER basis

I was originally very dubious about the new management, but they are slowly convincing me of their ability to release shareholder value and turn the company around in a very difficult commodity price environment. The management seem to be talking the talk but also delivering on those words. 2017 should be a transformational year as they become more profitable from cutting costs and rising commodity prices. I have been persuaded to part with more of my money and invest more heavily here.

'I'm impressed by what this Co is achieving' - I second that Plasbryn. This new management team don't hang about. They are acting decisively and I like that. Take the purchase of equipment for Zani-Kodo for example, and the continuing driving down of costs. Even when they bought the slaughterhouse, which was slightly unexpected it is fair to say, it now looks like a great move to create more opportunities for people on company land at a very difficult time. If there is some hesitancy over the smelter restart that is the kind of caution we need because it is such a big deal and they don't have third-party feed yet. I'm happy anyway, and should the gold price start to perk up again we will all benefit.

I'm impressed by what this Co is achieving on so many fronts. If gold & nickel hold I have calculated the share price should be c.5p on 10 times earnings buy end of their Financial Year (31/03/2017).The next financial year should be significantly better once they achieve consistency of earnings & costs, which I have no doubt they will. This last quarter of their financial year should be time to secure a decent holding whilst the share price fails to attract fair value IMO, but DYOR .

Bit disappointing to see nickel stocks on the rise again after a prolonged fall.

ASA wants them to go the other way
