05/12/2016 13:10 | Whilst Bindura Smelter is viable above $10k/tn, if Nickel spot did manage to sustain a price above $12K/ tn, it may provide enough of a confidence boost to other nickel miners in the area. The Smelter will have 50% idle capacity that could be used for 3rd Party concentrate. I can see 2 main options that could provide a nice boost here: 3rd Party Platinum concentrate and/ or the Munali Nickel Mine just north across border in Zambia. This mine appears ready to start-up but is awaiting a recovery in Nickel price. hxxp://www.cnmplc.co The Munali Mine is owned by a company called CNM, however the main partner is Jinchuan, a major Chinese mining company listed in HK. Coincidentally, when ASA provide an outlook on the nickel market, in the last few reports it seems to always quote Jinchuan. Geographically and from business perspective, would appear to be a good fit. Before Munali was put on care and maintenance, it used to rail its nickel concentrate down to a smelter in Botswana, however my understanding is this smelter is now on care and maintenance itself. So BNC smelter could be only show in town and even if it wasn't, sure it could put a competitive proposal together if/ when Munali is ready to re-start. | redtrend | |
