It does appear we have reached the bottom of the news and share price and I expect these to recover to 2p in 2005

clearly the power plant needs to be sold off....

expect a decent reaction in the price when that happens

Well, I need to review the write off figures to see what is coming through in 2005

Trading refocus and chairman issue seem to be clearing...need more time to review

Clearly turnover is now based from smaller operations..but profitability should improve

Not great, but not that bad either...

Net asset value of business still a 30% premium to the share price

LONDON (AFX) - Arko Holdings PLC said its 2004 trading was disappointing,
with pretax loss widening sharply, but said the company has seen a solid start
to 2005.
In a statement, chairman Qin Shun Chao said he looks forward to a
significantly improved performance in 2005.
Arko said 2004 has been a challenging year for the group, with a number of
changes in senior personnel, including the departure of its chairman and CEO.
In 2004, operating profit before provisions and exceptional items stood at
2.971 mln usd, with the major source of income during the period coming from its
shipping business in Hong Kong, the Guangzhou container terminal and the power
plant.
Due to the uncertainty of the development of various projects, provisions of
7.139 mln usd was provided for.
Pretax loss came in at 7.196 mln usd following the disposal of its trading
arm versus a loss of 9,602 usd the year before. Sales stood at 43.696 mln usd,
down from 82.978 mln usd, exacerbated by a disappointing fourth quarter in which
several anticipated large projects were cancelled or postponed.
The company said the adverse effects caused by the departure of the former
chairman should have been overcome in this financial year, and a reform in
management would be seriously carried out in the current year

the price being marked up has interested a few small buyers

As always this stock doesnt appear on many radars

Interested to see if a few more buys pushes it up more dramatically as we saw earlier in the year...

Stock is tightly held...long term success still rests on fundamentals and them turning the P and L around...

Jem

I have been buying them for three years and have topped up 500000 today

Fortunately my average price is quite low, but I intend to hold for a while

So today or Monday it is

Would endorse your comments and with the family holding 80% of the stock they will move very fast on news that profits are in sight..

The only downside is the issue with the chairman but once that is clarifed we should see a sharp correction

I also feel the move to London will increase awareness and apetite for this Chinese play....

Ed,

My thoughts too, I think the restructuring and concentration in shipping and logistics will pay dividends, maybe not yet but hopefully for the future. Their involvement in silicon is quite interesting since the demand for silicon in China is very high. It is just so hard to guage the scale of success of their business because in China so many factors can affect the business. I believe that because the "family" control most of the company this factor alone will help Arko - since most of the "big" business is done in an old boys network out there (my own experience.

Got to remember that Arko have been profitable, and I feel potentially are a sleeping giant, their share price is very low and I think if you like to take a risk and put away some of these shares you may be rewarded in a few years time.

Looking forward to the results too....

I think this company will announce better results this year

Last year we had 6m £ of asset write downs in the PL which I do not think will reappear

If that comes good we could see full year profits around £4-5M which values the Compnay on a PE of 4-5

Looking forward to the results.....

Just recieved this reply from the MD Angela Leung:

am so sorry for not having replied you. I believe your earlier email must have been misplaced as I have not received it at all. Meanwhile, I am very delighted to inform you that the final result will be release either today or on Monday as now we are in the final stage to proof read the draft by all parties. We have a company brochure but they are written in Chinese. However, they contain some colorful picture on our current business, in particular in shipping logistics. If you wish, we can send you some copies by post. Please let me have your mailing detail.

Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Best regards,

Angela LEUNG
