Great article in today's FT in The Lex Column (page 26) about Curry's.

Not very flattering.

Speaks to the major trend of consumers increasingly buying appliances on-line rather than in-store.

Curry's. PC World. Dixons. Carphone Warehouse.

A telling history of consolidation and demise of once-great high-street retailing names.

Can see what's coming next and I don't think it's AO which is going to get taken over with their winning online only strategy.

Frasers Group - Clever. Very clever.

Statutory profit before tax of GBP7.6m (2022 : loss of GBP10.5m)

A turn to profitability, but a 17% decline in revenue suggests it may be short lived.

EPS at 1.13p gives a target of 113p for a P/E of 10

What will the market make of it?

well said.

for sure the uk's no.1 retail guru supremo.

and in the business of building businesses up - not ransacking them and then running them down to zero.

Stake-building.

Second rapid purchase by Frasers in a week taking them from just under 19% to a massive 21.33% ownership stake of AO.

What next?

Absolutely.

With delivery costs soaring, a behemoth like Frasers/SportsDirect must be actively considering all options to facilitate keeping delivery costs down on their soaring online sales.

One recalls recent events between Ocado and M&S:-

Also read this yesterday article in Retail Gazette enticingly headed: "What does Frasers want with AO":-

Agree quepassa. Being a shareholder does not in itself act as a gateway to logistics and generally 2 years discussions aren't had between shareholders and the board. But looking at the bright side there are benefits here and the markets has so far received this well.

Maybe that's it.

Logistics and delivery.

The Ft comments today , page 14 :-

" Shore Capital said it believed Frasers' intention was simply to be a shareholder with the deal "offering a gateway to partner on the fulfillment of two-man deliveries" ".

Not sure about Frasers being just a shareholder but the logistics side of the equation makes absolute sense.

Just look at this. A nice fit for Frasers....

Odey AM today confirm that they still own a voting stake in AO. of 5.92%

Interesting to note that the combined stakes of Frasers and Odey equate to just shy of 25% (24.882735% to be precise) of the voting rights of AO.

That's a figure to conjure with.

Of course, one can but wonder to oneself whether Frasers may or may not be interested at some point to purchase the remaining Odey stake in AO.
