HELP! now historically the intterim h1 results have been positive....there's also a good chance that the results tomorrow will be very good. so is the share price likely to go up?
The reason why i am asking is that Rio Tinto also posted very good results but is down today....

Any thoughts.....

LUKSIC STUDYING RENEWABLE ENERGY DEVELOPMENT IN NORTHERN CHILE
Wednesday, 06 August 2008

The powerful Luksic business conglomerate, most well-known for its work in the mining sector, is exploring a possible entrée into the world of renewable energy.

Jean Paul Luksic, president of Antofogasta PLC, said Monday that his company is studying wind and solar energy development. The firm has already undertaken geothermal energy initiatives, in conjunction with state-owned energy company ENAP.

"We are looking at the possibility of entering into the business of one of mining's most crucial raw materials: electricity," Luksic said. "We've taken the initiative, beginning with geothermal energy, to see which possibilities are most attractive and which would merit our involvement."

Luksic said Chile lacks expertise in the area of renewable energy, so Antofogasta PLC representatives are journeying outside the country to do the necessary research.

"Our expertise is mining, not energy," Luksic said. "But if we find a company out there that is trying to succeed in this field, we might be able to enter the scene, lower the risks, and make the endeavor more feasible."

"The first stage – geothermal – is the most important. It's part of what we already know how to do, and we believe Chile has tremendous potential in this area," he added.

Marcelo Awad, president of Antofogasta Minerals, has company representatives in Europe meeting with solar energy experts, but he said that many solar projects there rely on state subsidies.

In regard to future development of nuclear energy to meet Chile's electricity needs (and those of the mining industry, in particular), Luksic said the fruits of any such development would be at least 10 years off. As such, it's not a realistic pursuit for his company today.

"Right now, we have to keep studying the options," he said.

two factors -switching from mining to banks, also drop in oil prices - metals have always been seen as safe havens. saying that this stock is a steal at £5. plus lots of support at this price.

why such a big, consistent drop

copper took a dive today.

All the miners took a dive with anto being one of the heaviest fallers.
Also note Freeport MacMoran took a dive in the US

The chart needs to hold 500p

underperforming today amongst the other miners, maybe a late rally, or decline in anticipation that it may miss analyst expectations like xtrata
