16/12/2018 10:44 | Afren - oh boy was that a story. | bumpa33
16/12/2018 10:25 | I presume you are talking about AFR. I learnt a hard lesson there on what seemed like a 'no brainer'! | brasso3
16/12/2018 10:22 | Wanobi, few years back I got into Mart Resources at an all time low, pilling in heavy until it reached 14c, free riding from dividends, made nearly a Million on paper, when I started selling to the point I was eventually was forced out due to a bid, I’d given above half of that back; it was a very painful lesson on risk/reward, falling in love with a share/believing a story, running winners and taking profits etc. Markets always provide lessons, trick is to heed them. One such lesson is never invest in Nigerian oil plays, area is awash with the stuff but business ethics are shocking putting it mildly. Do your own thing but live and learn. | riggerbeautz
16/12/2018 10:07 | Wanobi, have you got a watch list of shares ? I use Google finance for that. I looked at a few that I would top up on or buy in. if the Market takes a big hit. IDEA,FFX,K3C,DSCV,SO The next trading days should see the XMAS rally I hope. NAI and please DYOR if you decide to invest. ATB. PS. Wanobi I did that with AMC while we were waiting for the License news.I even bought some, as FRAK on the III BB found out that AMC had got the License before the RNS arrived. I don't mind disclosing my holding in AAZ to you,it is 172,204 Shares now.. | callmebwana
16/12/2018 10:00 | Bumpa, bwana, I too watched the big short, well most of it, I missed the start and would have missed the whole thing if you had not posted Bumpa, so thanks for doing that... One thing that struck me was the leg work they put into proving up their postulation before they went in big, literally threw the kitchen sink at it and walked away with a fortune.... a bit like the discussion I was having with mattjos yesterday,,, & WB's "when it's raining gold, put out the bucket not the thimble." and when those opportunities come his way, he takes full advantage!!!! it's clear to me that he truly believes this is such an event, he's done the leg work & can clearly see how undervalued AAZ is, hence his determination & discussion with me about buying as much AAZ as my funds permit... apologies for talking about you, rather than to you mattjos, but I do see clearly where you are coming from... you are like the guy in the film, you have total belief in AAZ and have thrown the sink at it... so I'm guessing that when it revalues you'll walk away with a fortune... I truly hope it does that for you & for us. I will be adding more on the back of this weekends discussion :-) thanx all... Cheers Wan | wanobi
16/12/2018 09:38 | morning all, welcome back to 'Dear Old Blighty' bwana, weather people say it should start warming up a bit now for you :-) cheers Wan | wanobi
16/12/2018 09:14 | Good morning all. I got back in last night,if I had known what the weather was going to be like here I would have stayed in Cyprus,LOL. It was freezing rain and very cold. I had a very good holiday for a month, chilled out now. The internet was rubbish where I was,so just been reading the posts today. Bumpa you have been having fun.I hope you did well with your shorts. I watched The Big Short last night on BBC2. Have a good weekend all. ATB. | callmebwana
15/12/2018 22:40 | One man's loss is another man's gain! Cheers Wan | wanobi
15/12/2018 22:22 | Whilst i’m certainly not looking forward to a market crash, for the wider implications, i’ll certainly be looking forward to the opportunities afforded when all the bad players in this market inevitably get brought to task. Those opportunities will be truly once in a lifetime. | bumpa33
15/12/2018 22:17 | Interesting examples of big winners Mattjos gives. Tanfield (TAN) I remember well, it’s still around but completely collapsed a few years back. Don’t know ‘bout WCC, never come across it. I guess the point is, that somewhere along the line, however great a stock is, there’ll always be a point to get out... | bumpa33
15/12/2018 22:05 | The Big Short on BBC2 right now, love this film - prophetic timing? Fed next week, can they give the markets something to cheer? | bumpa33
15/12/2018 20:08 | yes Bo, if people move to gold it should be good, but, generally everything gets sold off is what I keep hearing.... could even be a great buying opportunity for AAZ at way lower prices, who knows,,,, as you say it will be interesting to see how AAZ share price responds,,,,, who knows, I certainly don't :-) cheers Wan | wanobi
15/12/2018 19:26 | What will be very interesting to see Wan, is if the markets sell off spikes down perhaps just after new year, what level of immunity AAZ will possess given the liquidity aspects it operates under, even given the imminent expected good news over the next few weeks. | bo doodak
15/12/2018 19:09 | yep Bo, rule number 14 - Always sell down your position to the sleeping level. :-) cheers Wan | wanobi
15/12/2018 19:04 | Indeed, as long as one can sleep at night, that's the main thing. | bo doodak
15/12/2018 18:42 | no problem mattjos, we all have our own risk tolerance, goals in life & so on,,,, and thankfully they all differ and that's what you call life :-) cheers Wan thanx for the discussion today, very much appreciated. | wanobi
15/12/2018 18:18 | ok guys … it's up to you. Only you can decide what best to do for yourself. I can't invest on the basis that the world might end tomorrow. Every company has risks. Some more than others | mattjos
15/12/2018 17:51 | I am a fan of AAZ and its prospects Mattjos, but sometimes, though rarely, a negative black swan can mean no value is left whatsoever. Its a risk I personally cannot ignore, though of course I do like the positive black/grey swans I feel AAZ may give us at some point. | bo doodak
15/12/2018 17:41 | wow, that's certainly seriously impressive results mattjos, I take my hat off to you.... my average is exactly 0.5438 at the moment, so yes, it looks like a lot of headroom to get out if a black swan came along,,,,, but,,, lets say there was a war, earthquake, mine collapse or whatever, AAZ in my humble opinion would not be liquid enough for me to get out quickly enough,,,,, I have no stop losses set (maybe I should have) so I'd have to be in front of my screen at the time etc etc...... just how quick could the share price collapse!!? cheers Wan | wanobi
15/12/2018 17:22 | since the 90's, I've had: TAN (2p --> 186p), WCC (75p --> £20) & AAZ (4p --> 88p so far). Of these three AAZ is highest quality company & best management, imo | mattjos
15/12/2018 17:16 | perfectly fair point Bo Doodak but, at 50p average, Wanobi has plenty of headroom …. good ones like AAZ come up about once every 10 years in my experience | mattjos
15/12/2018 17:10 | mattjos, please trust me, I won't, no regrets and all that, cheers Wan :-) I'll strike a deal with you now, when AAZ gets to 500p/Share ask me again :-) Cheers Wan | wanobi
15/12/2018 17:08 | yes Bo, that's been my point all along, thanx, cheers Wan | wanobi
15/12/2018 17:06 | fair enough .. you can still make a fortune at this if you simply sell losers and hold winners. In the year ahead though as your knowledge & ability grows, & trust me on this, you will 100% kick yourself about AAZ. | mattjos
15/12/2018 17:05 | One cautionary point against having too concentrated an undiversified a portfolio and continuing to buy and average up, is at what point to stop. By all means, be overweight, but... Concentration of risk eventually becomes too high re black swans events which are by nature non- forecastable, so if one were to hit AAZ, it could decimate one's portfolio. | bo doodak |
