It has been tricky to buy all day. I think the free float here is pretty small: only 114m shares in issue, so every 114,000 shares is 0.1% of the company. That is, in fact, the biggest factor holding the share price back: that if any institution wanted to buy a £5m stake it is virtually impossible for them to do so.

Stock very tight again, some must have seen the note early.

$1230/oz POG.

Interesting.....in a nice way.

Note that this break upwards in the price isn't much to do with $ weakness; it's pretty much pure buying moving the POG today.
As of late.
Indeed, the strong $ factor dragging down the POG petered out back in mid-August; from then until October the $ effect was pretty much neutral.

OK, so we're still just within the historic seasonal period for peak gold demand of Sept->mid-Oct....but the technical look [to me] is decidely +ve here; for next few months anyway.
Over a month of sideways move followed by a breakout-up pattern is usually bullish no?

Morning Matt,
Yes the buyer might need to exhibit some patience and catch the few being dribbled out by the bored until someone else gets impatient to cash in a substantial gain.
All those who have done that so far have been wrong and have joined THE list. Although I notice a couple of sellers or partial sellers have now realised their mistake and are trying to rejoin the party to limit their missed opportunity.
Problem is, as has been talked about often, there's soon fresh cash landing in the hands of some very committed holders who will be buying "free shares". Quite some competition for the buyer

The volumes traded today are a bit pathetic, I guess the days when you could get an online quote in 100k shares is long gone never to return....

have a read of this wanobi. He's a guy i've a lot of time for. If he's right (on the downside scenario), we could be looking at a v severe market correction or worse. As he points out there's been a lot of technical damage to the charts so bulls have a lot to do to regain the momentum.

I'm warming to Powell as i think he's different from Greenspan, Bernanke and Yellen etc in that, so far, he is not beholden to markets, or indeed Trump. If markets don't think the "Fed has their back" then i think we may well be looking at (a lot) more downside.

Read a lot of panic from punters over the last week. They ain't seen nothing yet if we really go for it.

Should be good for gold of course, quality will always out in the end.

I should add, we've not confirmed anything yet, and likely to have a bounce here from oversold positioning, but critical to watch the markets next few weeks...

Nice move up on the POG.

A break-out of sorts.

If $1,190/oz proves a floor, yet another +ve for AAZ.

Possibly goes without saying that you cannot buy any online at the moment. Will they raise the bid to encourage sellers?
