On BBC News Wales - Gold and copper mining possible after survey

There are renewed hopes that minerals such as copper and gold could once again be mined on Anglesey. During the 18th Century, Mynydd Parys, near Amlwch in the north of the island, provided copper across the world. A survey has found there were more deposits than were originally thought. Anglesey Mining said the recent surveys showing large deposits of minerals, as it embarks on the next phase of securing new permits.

I agree fully on the supply and demand disequilibrium likely in copper over in the second half of this decade..seems obvious. There is also little scope to turn on any production taps..there are few new projects coming on line and any major potential supply projects will take many years to get close to production. One of the reasons Parys is attractive is the short term deliverability to meet such supply shortage. The infrastructure is there with near links to major port , the political and local will is there..huge renewable power hooked up.All these things are major obstacles in most projects..once the existing mining permits updated and environmental works done this could be producing a couple of years out with a build up of locally employed people getting trained up in the run up.If you go further out on supply demand really interestingCopper: the New Oil?The energy transition promises to change the present slump of copper."Everyone's bullish view is predicated on the transition," Case observes. Tang calls copper "the new oil in the energy transition".According to Tang, while demand growth in China could slow to 2.5% by 2027, that relative softness should be largely compensated by demand in the US that could shoot up to 7%. By then, the world would enter a chronic deficit. The year 2027 "is the year when the market starts to be very worried because the deficit could snowball if supply does not catch up, she says. This is because we expect copper demand to increase more than 82% between 2021 and 2025 in order to meet the net-zero goals by 2050".As early as 2035, S&P Global predicts that a chronic yearly deficit of 9.9 million metric tons could set in."The severity of the deficit will largely depend on the industry's ability to expand capacity as energy transition-related applications are expected to boost overall copper demand to about 50 million metric tons in that time frame from the current 25 million metric tons," states the report.https://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/news/243518/coppers-weakness-hides-demand-%e2%80%93-and-deficit-%e2%80%93-to-come.aspx

Thanks Kooba, you have clearly done your homework. Copper price trajectory does rather depend on there being an economic recovery, particularly in China, so always scope for another spanner in the works.

Capitalising the H on the weblink seems to work to make a clickable link.

Copper is down 14% over 2 years recovering strongly from the lows in mid 2023.Copper is up 35% from the level taken in the PEA ($2.81 based on three year trailing) produced in March 2021..making the economics far stronger than that last economic assessment , a current three year trailing level would also take into account the slightly higher levels seen 2 years ago obviously that would be used in a PFS.https://www.angleseymining.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Parys-Mountain-PEA-Report-and-CPR-letter.pdf

Anglesey re-tweeted the statement below recently, the assay results are eagerly anticipated.

You are either in or out of this stock as the re-rate seems destined to continue. It is still quite hard to buy in any size, there has been very little selling also.

'I believe the assay results due in Q1 for hole NCZ001 will deliver grades that support a substantial increase in the PFS MRE. This alone will be a seminal moment for the company, management & site team at Anglesey that have worked so hard to make this happen'

Alan Green.

I suppose one should also never invest in technology or life sciences or any company that does not make an immediate return i guess. Or maybe just understand that returns on investment in pre revenue companies can take some time but that the return on that capital invested can be very large. Many pre revenue businesses require investment capital ..they are high risk high reward situations. If folks don't understand this then i suggest they stick to dividend paying blue chips.

calmtrader .. it is only able to raise on the assumption something will go into production at some time ?!? This story has gone on for decades . Juno charges £200k a year in interest alone which will eat up future near term placings. I can give you many AIM examples of exploration companies going bust if you want me to do that ? It’s a huge gamble with a company closing in on 1/2 billion issued shares and warrants. How many more will it have to place to get the funding to actual mining / production? In my view it’s best bet is to sell out once they can prove the NAV of the contained resources . You might get a profit then . Otherwise I only see placing after placing and you have to ask why Jo Battershill has jumped ship .

The trend is still bullish, buyers were appearing towards the close Friday, online buy limits reduced significantly around 4pm.

The uptrend should continue, the gap to 1.95p has now been filled as anticipated, the next near term target is 2.4p, if that breaks 2.85p is on the cards.

Looks like Grangex is the main player for Swedish low carbon steel production, with Anglo-American backing them. Was just looking at their Dec 2023 presentation - no mention of Anglesey mining of course, but its an interesting backdrop and gives lots of info on green steel projects and value of high grade ores like those in Sweden - and their website starts with "Our platform projects in Dannemora and Grängesberg are the basis for our future expansion via acquisitions, and development of existing and future mineral operations."

Green steel, green copper, and security of supply - not a bad area to be invested in.

Certainly an easier gig than Jo took on now so much work has been done in moving the project to a fundable level that better reflects the opportunity with Parys. The potential of the Grangesberg asset is still not reflected at all and again Jo has improved our ownership and control position to look at the corporate opportunities available. The clearing out of the old guard also makes the prospect of being able to move this forward in a professional manner far easier.Hoping 2024 leads to better market understanding of the value here...time will tell.
