China to see nickel ore deficit in 2019 if Indonesia advances export ban

SMM Insight 02:56:42PM yesterday Source:SMM
SHANGHAI, Aug 7 (SMM) – This year is likely to see a supply deficit of nickel ore in China if Indonesia stops issuing new export quotas to bring forward the planned ban on mineral ore exports from 2022.

As of the end of July, Indonesia has issued 66.38 million wmt of nickel ore export quotas since it allowed a five-year grace period for ore exporters in return for investment in processing capacity in 2017, and 20.45 million wmt of which has neither expired nor been used yet, showed SMM calculations.

If Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) no longer approves new export quotas, the country is expected to export another 12.01 million wmt of nickel ore by the expiration of the remaining quotas, in view of the shipment suspension or limited capacity of some mines.

Adhikara Cipta Mulia mine has suspended shipments on formality issue, while limited shipment capacity will deter mines like Tiran Indonesia, Sulawesi Resources, Sambas Minerals Mining from using up their quotas.

Nickel ore exports from Indonesia is expected to stand at 9.73 million wmt in August-December, bringing Indonesia’s exports of medium- to high-grade nickel ore for 2019 to 23.66 million wmt. This is a prudent forecast, as some mines may ramp up shipments.

The expected imports from Indonesia are unlikely to meet demand in China, resulting in a supply deficit for the year. This compared to an oversupply of 60,000 mt that SMM estimated in late July if Indonesia continues to renew export permits.

In the first six months of 2019, China imported 12.38 million wmt of lateritic nickel ore, up 32% from the first half of 2018 and 20% from the second half of 2018. Medium- to high-grade cargoes accounted for 97%.

Nickel prices earlier this week received a boost from the news that Indonesia may advance the ore export ban from January 2022.

This followed by reports that the Indonesian Nickel Miners Association sent a letter to President Joko Widodo asking the government to allow low-grade nickel ore exports for all miners and to regulate domestic pricing for the mineral.

Well Giz,I have been posting that Indonesia was going to ban Nickel Row Ore export in 2020 to China. China being their biggest importer of Nickel Ore.
The Chines Importers were getting all the PM,s for free.
Indonesia is going to spend $10 Billion, building a Smelter of their own.
Can't blame them either. This Ban will let the Cat loose among the Pidgions for sure where AMC is conserned.
Great news IMHO of course.

Hi Bwana,

Hope enjoying your trip, a birthday treat?

Completely agree re. Woodford, the MSN’s proving to be worse that just a bad stock picker lately. Won’t do interviews, won’t freeze fees and sold stock in his own co. and didn’t notify until very late afterwards.

Hargreaves landsown stock price looks good for a correction imo.

Trading on PE of 40 and these results today only account for 2 months worth of post scandal activity.

They built their business on reputation and it’s taking a hit. Market cap of 9 billion!!! Surely it’s due a fall.

O/T.
Anyone buying shares in a Co. Please make sure that Woodford is not a share holder in that Co.
He has taken a big hit again in BUR yesterday. Poor people caught in his Fund still have to pay management fees, yet they can't drown out their money!! Woodford collects over a £1 Million per month in management fees!!! FCA ?? Where are they??

I bought some shares in TRX a couple of weeks ago ! I dumped them like a hot potato.
Though he had transferred them to Omnis Fund. Omnis may decide not to hold AIM stocks.
It is the AIM we are invested in after all.

AMC will do its own thing. I am not in the least bit worried here. No one can steal our resource in the ground. Don't forget,we are sitting on the largest resource of Nickel Sulphide in Asia. They will need this size resource to be developed every year to meet the demand from the EV Batteries Manufacturers.
I say bring it on. Been here long enough and I an't going anywhere soon.NAI .

Good morning guys.
Brasso , it does not matter what happens,a T/O a Merger or a J/V. All I can say is the share price won't be under 2 P for much longer. In a few weeks I would expect some good news from AMC.
What is fair value for AMC on a T/O? I have done some figures in the past. Minimum of 30P,or between 30/70P. I don't know the 2018 drilling results yet!!!
2% is the fair value ,of our resource value. Do some figures on a resource of $30/40 Billion and you will come close to that T/O figure.
Buy,sell ,everyone to their own. I am quit happy with my 1.5 Million shares.
