06/2/2009 08:59 | Broker tips: KBC Peel optimistic on Amino LONDON (ShareCast) - KBC Peel Hunt gives the online video services provider Amino Technologies (LSE: AMO.L - news) a 'buy' rating after the firm's impressive full-year results. Amino, which said it was benefitting from increased use of online video services such as YouTube and the BBC iPlayer saw pre-tax profit climb to £2.16m from £1.41m the previous year, even as revenues slipped to £31.9m from £32.25m. KBC Peel expects Amino to benefit from recent product launches and acquisitions in 2009. | dickbush
03/2/2009 12:12 | Figures are a curate's agg: some good stuff (40% 2nd half gross margin and strong licence and service revenue), some bad (stb sales down 11% on the normally seasonally weaker first half) and some luck (currency very helpful). Should see the full benefits of the two recent acquisitions and the prize-winning M130 stb in the next set of figures. | dickbush
29/1/2009 10:50 | Jan 29th Thomson SA tumbled 12 percent to 1.15 euros. The unprofitable French maker of television set-top boxes will sell assets and plans discussions with creditors and potential investors as part of a reorganization to reduce its debt. Note, however, that the French government is mulling over loans to companies like Thomson that are considered "strategically important". | dickbush
20/11/2008 08:51 | No idea if the Tilgin acquisition will work out but, on the upside, that's one less competitor. One question, though. How did Tilgin manage to achieve revenue of £21 mil on sales of 146,000 units? That's £144 per box. Amino only averaged £57 per box in the first half. With cash in such short supply everywhere, I hope they can find some very advantageous deals over the next year or so. | dickbush

11/11/2008 10:07 | Re Lumexis AIRFAX: Hot Topic: WAEA/AIX - A Really Great Show! Tuesday, October 07, 2008 All comments aside, last week featured one of the best WAEA Conferences in recent memory. We don't know if it was the promotion, the Long Beach Conference hall, the fact that the AIX was co-located, the airline economic climate (?), the new technology, the weather, or whatever. Nice work to all those who participated and helped. Now the Best In Show - Congratulations Lumexis. We know you think we are on their payroll, but they aren't even IFExpress advertisers! They were chosen over some tough competition - Thales, IMS, Sicma, Panasonic...we looked at them all and while they each had outstanding booths and presentation we choose Lumexis for a) An original booth design, b) An incredible, paradigm shifting technology, c) Popularity to airlines and show-goers alike. Congratulations. We talked to Tech Guru, Rich Salter and he noted that they were also pleased for a couple reasons. Said Rich, "All of our time slots were taken by airlines, that has never happened to me. We had to fit in airlines who were not on our dance card - they all needed 30 to 40 minutes of presentation time - we loved it. I should also mention that out of the airlines who talked to us, we found ample good candidates for our next installs and trials." | dickbush

12/9/2008 11:40 | Abig news day for Amino. In addition to the RNS's I found this. Amino debuts Plug-in PVR technology for IPTV set-top boxes September 12, 2008 - UK set-top box firm Amino has introduced a new plug-in solution enabling telcos to provide their IPTV subscribers with personal video recording (PVR) functionality without the need for hard drive units during the initial installation. Introduced at this year's IBC event, which started today in Amsterdam, the new solution enables the user to attach a USB drive to their existing set-top box and access their files quickly and view them on any set-top box. The new Plug-in PVR concept will be offered over the next few months, according to Amino. "Put simply, Plug-In PVR technology means increased flexibility and reduced costs for the operator," said Andrew Burke, CEO at Amino. "This development provides a clear upgrade path enabling consumers to benefit from falling hard drive prices and increasing capacity. This growing freedom is yet another positive enhancement to the way we watch television. Over the coming months, we will see the introduction of this more flexible, user-friendly, external storage solution. It is technology like this that will form the foundations of next-generation IPTV." Operators can create offers using different drives with capability ranging from pausing of live TV to full PVR functions, and optionally charge an upgrade fee to enable the feature. | dickbush
09/9/2008 17:47 | Harmonic to Debut Internet and Mobile TV Solution Integrated with Leading Set-Top Boxes and Mobile DevicesSeptember 8, 2008 9:00 AM Harmonic Inc. HLIT today announced that at IBC 2008 stand #1.C61, taking place in Amsterdam from September 12-16, Harmonic will demonstrate an innovative and versatile new solution for delivery of video content over the Internet ("over-the-top") to a variety of devices, including television sets, PCs, personal media players and mobile devices. This end-to-end demonstration includes technologies from Harmonic, Advanced Digital Broadcast S.A (ADB), Amino, PeerTV and Stream Group, and encompasses encoding, transcoding, streaming, middleware and client devices including the Nokia N95 mobile phone. The ability to deliver any video content to any device, in real time or on demand, is quickly becoming a critical requirement for video service providers to remain competitive. The flexibility of IP technology is a key enabler for a multi-screen video experience including advanced Internet TV and mobile video services. For several years, Harmonic has led the industry in developing and deploying all-IP video delivery solutions, including the world's first all-IP headend solution, and compression, file-based and real-time transcoding, statistical multiplexing and video stream processing products with native IP support. "In addition to delivering a high quality Internet video experience on the PC, we believe that the ability to bring Internet content to the TV and deliver high quality mobile video are important value-add services for our customers," said Thierry Fautier, Director of Telco Solutions for Harmonic Inc. "Our demonstration at IBC 2008, in conjunction with other industry leaders in this emerging space, brings together many of the key aspects service providers need to put a compelling Internet and mobile TV service in place, and makes a converged 'any-to-any' video experience a reality." Integrated with Harmonic's market-leading encoders and a new transcoding solution to be introduced at IBC, the demonstration features solutions from: ADB (stand #4.B48): Windows Media and Flash content received directly from the Internet on an IPTV STB will be displayed on TV, using ADB's 3800/10 series set-top box Amino (stand #5.B40): Internet streaming using the AmiNET125 multi-codec Set-Top Box will be displayed on TV PeerTV: The PeerStation, an affordable, extremely flexible Internet TV set-top can transform any web page in real-time for display in a TV-friendly format Stream Group: The Solocoo iTV middleware platform from Stream Group utilizes an IP/open Internet architecture to bring a seamless mix of broadcast channels and Internet content to consumers Nokia: Mobile video will be encoded using Harmonic products and streamed in H.264 baseline format over a WiFi network to a Nokia N95 mobile phone | dickbush

11/8/2008 08:41 | long 56; formed a decent bottom (tradeable within, mind), but today's results, showing cash up to £19m, swing into pretax profit, etc. just might mark the start of something more sustained by way of a rise, IMO ...what with IPTV becoming more of-age as a technology, and broadband improvements more able to support it | mikehardman |
