With the usual year-end trading statement expected later this month, I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of a bounce here. My thinking is
1) Although the share price was hammered on the loss of the Thomsonfly contract, that does not kick in until April 2006, leaving 2005 forecasts untouched and contributing to Q106. Analysts' estimates for 2005 are eps 6p+ giving modest PER of 10+
2) AAP management are a pretty shrewd bunch. I wouldn't put it past them to have dealt with the impact of the lost contract by April 06
3) Airport passenger figures are extremely robust. Most of the growth is going into regional airports/charter flights where AAP is most strongly represented.
4) AAP retail side has been showing stunning growth disguised in the overall figures by the struggles of the inflight catering side. I would expect this trend to continue.
5) Travel to Sri Lanka and other tsunami-affected locations seems to have recovered more quickly than might have been expected.

One to watch IMHO.

Wait until after the next profit warning, £4mil off the bottom line is going to take some making up. Difficult journey from here I think. Sad really, sincere management but they have been let down several times by their customers.

Sitting at 65 today. Surely worth more than that. Any idea when the bounce will come?

optomistic,

As you say, individual judgement is required and, depending on your investing 'style', this is going to be a case of horses-for-courses. If you are a trader or looking for short-term gains, then I suspect this is not for you. In the short term, we have the effect of this contract loss which follows on from 'tsunami' problems and a tightening retail market. Frankly, I think they will struggle for a while. However, for those with a longer-term perspective and nothing better to do with the cash, I expect them to maintain the divi, giving a 5.5% yield net of basic rate tax, and the underlying business remains a £500m turnover/£20m profit model as long as it can avoid being knocked by one-offs such as SARS, 9/11, tsunamis and so on. A 'clean' year and a couple of contracts going the right way would turn the whole thing around IMHO.

Not a lot moving out this morning, smallish volume and 15% drop. Had a bigger drop on RTD after good results. May bounce a little tomorrow, sell or hold.... difficult one! individual judgement required here.

Just seen that their house broker - Panmure - has cut its price target for the share from 90p to 75p. Glad I got out when I did.

Yeah. I got out at 78p this morning. Took a bit of a hit, but don't want to risk any more capital. The estimates for the year will have to be revised, and they may not even have enough cover for the divi.

"Air France owns 27% of AAP, and it has been making noises about expanding its flight catering interests."

Four years on and Air France still own 27%, if they have anything in mind shouldn't be much longer. If not we could be plodding on for years.
Been a firm few days considering the state of the market,
keeping hopeful!

The share went down a bit on a few bad days in the market and it's come back a bit on a day when the market has recovered. Why do I feel we've been here before?

Just a snippet taken from Alphas website:

"Every site in which Alpha has installed new design fixturing has produced double digit growth in sales, proving that the investment is extremely worthwhile from a commercial point of view. As such, we are keen to continue rolling out our investment programme where possible."

Hope for the future!

Outlook

Ongoing progress in relation to last year's Flight Services development projects
both in the UK and Internationally combined with the absence of the first half's
significant one-off start-up costs, gives us confidence for a strong second half
Flight Services recovery. In addition, we are seeking further UK cost-savings
this winter, as we upgrade and rationalise our UK Flight Services facilities at
Manchester, and extend our Blue Sky Service customer base. We believe UK
consumer confidence in the retail sector will remain cautious, and thus our UK
Retail environment will continue to be challenging. However, we anticipate
significantly improved second half International Retail performances. Despite
our upgraded investment in business development - including the £7m
implementation of new IT systems across our UK Retail estate this winter - we
remain cautiously optimistic for overall Group progress for the full year.

Interim Results

RNS Number:9257R
Alpha Airports Group PLC
29 September 2005

Alpha Airports Group Plc
Results for the Six Months ended 31 July 2005

Unaudited 29 September 2005

* Encouraging overall revenue growth of 12.4% to #268.8m (2004/5:
#239.2m), driven primarily by 8.4% growth in like-for-like international
passengers at UK regional airports, and excellent 27% growth in Inflight
Retail.

* Adjusted* profit before tax down 34.7% to #6.6m (2004/5: #10.1m) due to
new contract start-up costs in UK Flight Services, enhanced business
development costs in UK Retail, and subdued Asian Retail trading post-tsunami.
Profit before tax down 42% to #6.2m (2004/5: #10.7m).

* Recent acquisitions in Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria performing to plan.

* New #100 million five year debt financing secured.

* UK pensions deficit has increased due primarily to lower long-term
interest rates. This deficit will require increased future company funding and
higher charges in our future results.

* The Board has recommended a dividend of 1.0p per share (31 July 2004:
1.0p per share) to be paid on 4 November 2005 to shareholders on the register
as at 7 October 2005.

* From continuing operations before separately disclosable items, goodwill
impairment and after adjustments for tax on associates.

Commenting on the interim results, Kevin Abbott, Chief Executive, said:

"Even though these results are broadly in line with our own expectations, we are
disappointed to report a profits decline. We are pleased with the underlying
progress made on many of last year's Flight Services initiatives, and we remain
committed both to ongoing active development of our existing strongly positioned
businesses and to further acquisitions. Despite our first half result and a
weakening UK retail environment, we anticipate a strong second half recovery and
are cautiously optimistic for overall Group progress for the full year."

Someone just bought 550,000 shares according to ADVFN, so clearly not everyone views this as a 'premium bond'

This share has almost been a 'Premium Bond' co ,likely to get your money back but not much chance of a big win.If it cannot take advantage of the Heathrow situation now ,then it never will.
