18/8/2006 12:11 | A bit of action, finally - anybody know of any news? Or is it just some institutions deciding to get in at this very low price? The buys this morning totalled around 3% of the share capital so if it was all one buyer we should be getting a holdings RNS next week. | bletherer
18/8/2006 10:03 | Results and statement today from Gap - although mostly company-specific - do include some sector related observations that might add another dash of negativity to AXN, FCCN, et al. | m.t.glass
18/8/2006 08:40 | Your dosh would do better in JQV Frauddy, imo Same industry, but right direction CR | cockneyrebel
17/8/2006 13:56 | Thought you wouldn't want to miss this Frauddy: DJ MARKET TALK: Dresdner Cuts Alexon Target Price To 130p 1252 GMT [Dow Jones] Dresdner Kleinwort cuts Alexon (AXN.LN) target to 130p from 195p and 06/07 EPS to 13.1p from 19.4p, and 07/08 EPS estimates to 14.4p from 23.2p. Trading update at the end of July confirmed 1H sales were down, in part due to self-inflicted problems, and although there is a "realistic" hope for improvement in 2H, a competitive clothing market and unhelpful weather won't help. Company has "eye-wateringly" high operational gearing. Shares -0.9% at 116p. (HJE) CR | cockneyrebel
16/8/2006 18:49 | OT What do you make of EMAP? Struggling Consumer and B2B Media Company with good free cash flow, large dividend and little debt - Similar to Alexon, French Connection, HMV, Matalan & Woolworths? Personally, I think it is to soon to buy retailers but I don't need to take large positions! I'd expect more carnage after Xmas trading statements. | grigor
11/8/2006 13:20 | Freddy - clearly you are in a different league from the likes of me and Sam. Among your 90 (fbb) threads going back 5 years, there do seem to be a high proportion of stocks with prices pointing downwards. If I had your courage and was prepared to grasp at falling knives, I guess I would be as wealthy as you by now - or would have a very large collection of knives ;o) | m.t.glass
10/8/2006 11:25 | with illiquid stocks where your aim is to make serious money (as opposed to cfding a few thousand for a bit of fun) the quantity target is important - it doesn't much matter if the first 25 thousand are showing a paper loss of 4 grand if the problem is laying your hands on enough to make a few tens or hundreds of grands, when the average bargain size is 1-2k and some days not even 25k are traded.....what matters is the average price paid for say 250,000 and whether it is possible to get out fast at ap + when the price turns....as it will at some point. | ydderf
09/8/2006 17:25 | ydderf - Some subversive types might say that paying 136p for a share that now has a bid price of around 122p "doesn't seem very bright", to coin a phrase. But you are no doubt a Star Trader, to whom such things as a steadily-declining share price is a mere distraction from what MTG so rightly describes as your "cunning plan" ;-) Do please let us in to more of your "trading secrets". For instance, do you search ADVFN's list of shares hitting 52-week highs and then short them on the grounds that they obviously must be "overvalued"? ;-) | samg99
09/8/2006 16:39 | congratulations if you were short from a couple of quid or more - they only appeared on my value radar at 136p, which is the most i have paid...... | ydderf
09/8/2006 16:09 | Yeah, right ;o) Thanx for da warnink. I might have thought it had halved in price since Easter but I can see it different now. All part of a cunning plan ;o) | m.t.glass
09/8/2006 15:49 | i can move the price at will so being short doesn't seem very bright unless you are talking a tenner or some other penny parcel silliness - fact is the price has only come off 14p in the last week or so, every time i post a sizeable buy on the board, someone leapfrogs me at a penny premium - there is actually another serious buyer out there but such is each our skills, a casual observer would see the shares in uncontrolled decline! | ydderf
08/8/2006 16:29 | No thanks. I remain short. But sellers do need someone to palm them off on, so do buy ;o) | m.t.glass
08/8/2006 16:13 | Avoid the Telegraph but buy the shares! | ydderf
07/8/2006 10:15 | "Avoid" (Telegraph) | m.t.glass
03/8/2006 11:40 | bought more today, am happy to buy when they are falling.......the selling will stop eventually - even if it means waiting for sub 100p | ydderf
02/8/2006 11:08 | started buying these yesterday.....probab | ydderf
02/7/2006 21:31 | Good balance sheet | grigor
02/7/2006 13:59 | Keeping an eye on several retailers but I expect Xmas to be terrible. | grigor
30/6/2006 12:06 | Anyone else into these? Have to admit I'm surprised they've tanked to this extent. Cash generative, P/E of 7 and dividend yield of over 6% with good cover make this look pretty cheap. Of course, like most other retailers they're struggling at the moment, but it is way cheaper than the sector average. Are they really that much worse than the competition? | bletherer
01/11/2005 12:27 | I held this share yonks ago when it hit about 17p then the co ditched its directors and apponited a new guy that transformed the co. However things are looking more gloomy these day. The managemt is good however the director sales not far back is a concern. Dolcis aint doing too good now and some of its operations weak. Retailers are in general in a bad way. I dont hold anymore too much concern with outlook now. Buy backs will give some support however things could get a lot worse and no amount of buy backs will correct a downtrend then. The only other reason for holding is if the co was to become a bid target. | fusebox
01/11/2005 12:21 | anyone else watching? | spracklin
30/6/2005 23:26 | Just in case any AXN holders/traders don't realise.....it will be going on to the SETSMM trading system on Monday week (11th July). IMO that will mean wider spreads a lot of the time, plus worse liquidity - we'll soon see! | samg99 |
