This looks like an interesting approach. Lots of competition in the sector, hope Mellow can pick a few winners https://www.fastcompany.com/90657375/this-startup-just-raised-75-million-to-make-a-more-cheesy-plant-based-cheese

Yep - existing investors all subscribing to a new funding round pari pasu can literally use whatever valuation they want

I am astonished at some posters making comments about the premium to NAV. The holdings are all private companies, generally pre revenue, with no listed peers. The investment thesis here is that when they start listing, or get taken over, it will be for many multiples of current NAV. ANIC needs cash to fund future funding rounds, at which NAV is irrelevant as existing holders will provide funding. So it could be at a big premium right now, or a discount. Who knows? We will find out in 3-5 years time, at which time I expect ANIC will have 10 bagged from here

I see the investee companies as all pretty good. Provided the investor agreements allow for commensurate participation in future funding rounds and investor can maintain their stake provided they have the money.

The weak link IMO, as mentioned befor, is Agronomics. I am still inspecting the recent fund raising. I read the various discussions earlier in this thread from those who were invested at that point and was wondering if any of you can answer some queries that I have not quite got to the bottom of.

1. The fall in price due to new investment money. Did all investors get a chance to maintain their stake?

2. Was there any conclusion to the discussion about the best broker to buy through to have all options open for future funding exercises?

3. Was this last funding basically a dilution for PIs?

Also, regarding the NAV. Isnt it wiser to get rid of the big lump of cash out of the equation by taking it off the share price and then see what the NAV to share price ratio is?

Good questions. Way too expensive at current levels. Its a risky stock and should be trading at NAV. That's around 15p.

It's not 4x NAV. It's not even double after the recent fund raise.

Have been in and out of IP group a view times - it's currently doing well - but has gone sideways with a lot of volatility for a long time - so not a disaster but not hugely exciting/successful for me Fortunately I bailed out on WPCT at a 15 percent loss

It's not possible - the best start ups are funded by a very small group of VCs and the best VCs are closed to new LPs (with the GPs having made so much money that they don't need much or any external capital) - so even if you've got tens of millions to commit you won't be able to invest You might luck out with some timing on one of the crowd funding platforms - but any promising start up in this market just doesn't need your money

A good question. On that note has anyone had good experiences with listed share funds similar to this? I have previously been stung twice. However I am happy with the rota of investees on the books here.

Virtually all the companies are private, and seed funded by funds like us.

Why does this deserve to be 4 x NAV and 6 x NTAV? Wouldn't it be easier to invest directly in their investee companies - or isn't that possible?

NOTE - I'm asking as I'm hoping the recent pullback is an opportunity to get on board.

My hope is that we get a few quick SPAC wins - as in they SPAC up some of their positions, which then creates value to help along with what will be a long road to fully commercialise cultured meat

Hi all,I'm in with a very small stake to begin with. Like others here, I think the potential for this sector is huge, but I'm not interested in playing the US stocks game. My knowledge of Mellon is mostly zero. It really is a punt for me here, hopefully getting in early enough before share price starts (one hopes) getting higher from the agro bandwagon

As for Jim Mellon being a shark - hearing his own account of how he and a business partner went into Russia in the 1990s it is clear he has a wild past.

I am in with a small investment.

NickGrant - interesting about Florida. Makes sense for Trump to hide out there I suppose.

As far as I can tell Jim Mellon was not linked to OM Group. Looks to me as thought the Jim referred to was James Mooney?
