AFC Energy (LON:AFC) shares soared 60% after a road show meeting to explain the significance of its recent contract win in Korea. It means the value of the Roman Abramovich-backed alkaline fuel cell specialist has more doubled since Monday, when it announced the deal. AFC is part of a consortium with local firms Samyoung and Chang Shin to build 50 megawatts (Mw) of capacity in Korea. It will sell 20 of its KORE systems into the joint venture within phase 1. Samyoung will build the plant and project manage, with Chang Shin to provide the hydrogen. Projected revenues over 10 years are approximately US$1bn. AFC Energy, which is a pioneer in hydrogen-powered fuel cells, is also contracted to build a 240kW system in Germany by the end of 2015, which will the first of its kind to operate commercially.
