Why the jump this morning?

Signs of premiums rising seems to be the issue.


Specialist car insurers Admiral , Direct Line , eSure rally on closely-watched AA index showing Q2 5 pct rise in premiums on quarter and on year....

5% is a big number given the lack of public information to the known contrary.Not that I want to start a rumour, however, plenty of recent insurance press re: consolidation.Any smoke out there?

FWIW, I axed mine this morning at just over £16, I've moved quite a bit in to cash/bonds for the moment in preparation for election uncertainty, market pullbacks, etc. You can be sure however that me selling ADM will presage a bid soon though ;-)

Thanks again, I only bought a few months ago, mainly for the income when the share price was 1230. Can't complain. That said, the result of the election could depress a few stocks for a while so I may take some profit.

Possibly but Bar Caps huge upgrade from TP 1023p to TP 1523p this morning possibly helping as well. Albeit the actual price is now well ahead if the target price!

There's no doubt that this was the most captivating bit of the read. "The combined ratio improvement was largely due to higher reserve releases that resulted from positive claims development, in particular from the 2011, 2012 and 2013 years."As the Chairman points out, UK performance will continue to drive profitability for some years to come.What does that mean for future reserve releases? Will they be able to keep the current pace after a year of price deflation and business consolidation ?

I liked it. It makes the statement more readable Not a holder here yet but I have a large holding in Esure - I think they both see that the UK car insurance market is somewhat off kilter. Hopefully that will change this year.
