Wild Donkey,
I just do not buy that.
Abbeycrest PLC have a very impressive, distinguished, and indomitable Remuneration Committee.
No director is paid any more than he is worth......... or so the story goes.

Nope, we should all aspire to a position on the board of a small quoted company. It's a license to print money apparantly.

I've just been looking through the Abbeycrest "Report & Financial Statements", and I noticed that Paul Stevenson was paid £112000, as "compensation for loss of office".
And yet the RNS stated:-
"Abbeycrest plc, the leading jewellery distributor, announces the resignation
from the Board of Paul Stevenson. Mr Stevenson will be leaving the company with
effect from 31 December 2005. The directors thank him for more than 21 years
service to the Group and wish him well for the future".
So how does this work? You resign, and they compensate you?
Is it me? Because if it is me who is mad, please tell me.

Thanks Arthur- I see that through tight control of working Capital debt has been reduced by 6 mln to just under 19mln as you say so net gearing is just under 60%(excluding intangibles)Hearing rumours that management are interested in taking Co private as despite debt they feel very confident in the long term future of business and that at current levels they are a steal. As yet obviously unsubstantiated so DYOR but remember where you heard it first!

Note that MM have squeezed the spread which is often a precursor to a large increase in price. I don't think there can be any doubt they are short of stock and keen to cover as upside potential from current levels is huge. Also note that bought stock above the bid at 18.85p v 18.50p which is telling!

Arthur-check the latest RNSs-could be mistaken but don't believe I am.At current levels it's a no brainer, surely?!

Looking at the latest balance sheet they had net debt of nearly 19m pounds.

I would still be very wary if this, but of course if it works out it will be a multi bagger.

Hi Arthur-Do you mean financially or operationally? I presume you mean financially-if you look at the new balance sheet it has large net cash position!

Very Highly geared though and it could still go broke.

Unsurprisingly moving up but share price was so very low that given it's fundamentals(it's trading at less than half of it's liquidation value) it's very hard to imagine it doing anything else. IMHO BUY

drectly,
By now, I believe they must have learnt to live with SAP.
Difficult to assess the cost of that little exercise, but I wouldn't be surprised if the true cost was in excess of £10m. Possibly well in excess.
But look on the bright side. I do not believe this company will be wasting any more money on such ludicrous purchases in the near future, or indeed ever.
As for high stock levels, I doubt we'll ever see such high stock values on the balance sheet again.
I'm in at an average of 19p. So, I'd like you to get in yourself. And any others who might be scratching their balding heads and wondering.
You've missed the worst. I hope.
