05/2/2013 13:00 | Yump.. Looking through the 2011 accoounts from The Ordnance Survey below you can see it spent a good sum, did you mention Tadpole (or the like)got sacked by these back in 2011! i cant remember if you did or not, but looking at the last line below could that be what they were brought in to complete! Balance sheet Investment expenditure Our total expenditure on investment activities in the year was £35.0m (200910: £46.6m). The total programme is made up of £26.3m capital additions and £8.7m charged to the Income Statement. During the year a seamless GDMS with a total cost of £52.0m including software development, was completed. The resulting asset is being amortised over 10 years. Other capital expenditure included ongoing refresh and development of underpinning IT infrastructure, delivery systems (including web portals to enable business customers to access and update their data holdings) and product developments. A proportion of these investments are assets in the course of construction at 31 March 2011. | 412069
05/2/2013 10:42 | There's certainly a lot of money looking for a home with all these projects and no doubt there will be a lot of jumping on bandwagons by consultancies inventing big data departments, despite a shortage of people that can actually do the job (since when did that matter, as long as you talk the talk !). Fortunately for SPA, there is an inevitable requirement for geospatial data management within a large proportion of big data projects. Even those of purely commercial organisations. I think that means that specialists like SPA will fill a key role that can't be sourced from elsewhere. Looks like the share price might be stabilising around this level. | yump

30/1/2013 18:55 | Marcus seemed confident, and provided a entertaining presentation.. Some were dreary. He highlighted what the company does and how they plan to move forward! I have done some database work and understand unique keys... 1spatial uses geo tagging down to the millimetre... (Amazing)To produce unique keys in database design.. Something like that any way I was sold on that fact and on the work with mapping they do. Maps are needed, and I don't think military and police use google maps :-) Some points I highlighted... 80% of information has a geo tag.17 of 35 world mapping agencies use them.Largest single client RAFThey have cash in the bank!Targeted growthTargeting the next census!RT | xrougetraderx

29/1/2013 10:54 | Crikey, I'm in the wrong job ! I'd assume from that, that SPA will charge 'appropriately', for their services and that there should be very healthy margins in the business, especially as some of the work is pretty critical. | yump
29/1/2013 10:46 | Yump look at the % wage increase for big data qualified persons. | 412069
29/1/2013 09:56 | Yump, i did see somehwere SPA also had a deal/trial with the British army with some thing similar. Would of been interesting to have gone to the forum today. | 412069
29/1/2013 09:44 | On the SPA website they mention the Brazilian Army as a client. Here's a link to some info about their geospatial data problems and the need to integrate: | yump |
