Hello, I have just set up a Bitcoin wallet using my Leger Nano S.Would someone be kind enough to transfer me a small amount of BTC, even if its not worth trading just so I know my Leger wallet is actually working. I understand no one in their right mind would give away their BTC but I am hoping someone is kind enough to help me figure this out.my BTC Address is;3CcS8U5jsvh39dTwGmzys5rxsYj6CrPijVThank you in advance and feel free to PM if that helps.

I posted this on the crypto thread, I've edited slightly for XRP, thought you might find it useful.

For a decent range of crypto currencies (including XRP) you need two things:

--------------------------------------

1)

A method of converting your fiat currency to a crypto currency (these tend to be limited to one or two crpto currencies (Bitcoin, Lite Coin, Ether etc)

Coinbase is the most popular Fiat to Crypto medium (this link contains my referal id which will give each of us £7 of bitcoin if you use it):

---------------------------------------

2)

An account with an exchange for a larger range of cryptos. The Exchanges tend to be crypto only, hence the need for the above.

I use Poloniex

---------------------------------------

TIP: Don't transfer crypto from Coinbase to Poloniex (or where ever to where ever) using Bitcoin as you will be charged fees built in to bitcoin for doing so, circa $30 when I was caught out. Use any of the other currencies available instead. Litecoin will cost a fraction of that for the same transfer (likely fractions of penny).

Also use a bank card rather than a credit card as I was charged by coinbase and by the credit card company to make a deposit when using a credit card where as there is only the coinbase fee on a debit card. If your patient avoid charges all together and use a bank transfer (not tried).

I'm using a wallet called "Toast" for Android to store my XRP offline, although I'm looking at buying the Ledger Nano S hardware wallet ( which supports a range of currencies.

The big caveat is that you need to be careful when creating wallets on XRP, every time you generate an address on an exchange or a new wallet you have to leave a balance of 20XRP in that wallet to fund it's place on the ledger. Currently there is no way of getting that money back, the requirement tends to drop as the value of XRP rises. There is also a requirement for more money to remain in the account to fund other ledger entries, but I haven't come across that yet so can't give any detail.

The way around this issue is to either convert your xrp to something else on whatever site you start on (coinbase, poloniex etc) or to use which will convert your xrp without the need for a wallet and move it to where ever you want. This is a good solution when you have money in a local wallet as you can't convert in a personal wallet and any other solution means creating as new wallet.

Thanks Duxy786... from what i've read the hardware wallet is essential.. like I said, my kids brought this to my attention :) from what I can gather from them a lot of their friends have had their coins disappear from wherever they're stored.. I've been following Etoro and just reading the comments.. get the feeling a lot of this altcoin is being fuelled by a younger generation.... ?

Also, If you are a bit paranoid like me, I suggest you buy a hardware wallet (e.g. hxxps://www.ledgerwallet.com).

This will allow you to hold your coins off-line. Not good for trading but ensures your long term investment is securely locked away at home and not in some online vault which may get hacked.

Unfortunately, I have the advantage in 2013-14 to own other coins using an online wallet which got hacked and the company apologized, but I lost it all, albeit, relatively unknown coin I was mining back then.

Well explained Vampire.

If people took heed and bought when I created this thread, they would be up 100%+ already.

Having bought at $0.18 and added at $0.22 and $0.59, am holding on to my lot for the long term. I used Bitstamp, very long winded approach, took from June - Oct to sort the damn thing out but I was not in any hurry.

Use Vampires approach above, should work perfectly well.

Buy ETH through coinbase.Transfer ETH to Binance.Once transferred, exchange for XRP (Ripple).Better to initially purchase ETH as has lower transfer fees and is much quicker to transfer.

Hi Adeal,
Thanks for the reply, would be very interested in knowing more about your XRP storage, particularly like the paper angle.
Bitcoins held on Lazer stick, mostly cashed in relatively small amounts as I did not trust one large dollop in one go. Yes it has cost me, the variance in getting actually paid out is scary, more thsn 3 weeks in some cases, and the charges...........pah.
I shudder to think how much is being scammed.
If there is still private messaging here feel free. I stopped being a paid up member years ago
Regards,
Andy.

Hello Irguk,I have done much research into this myself and have finally found a sane place to buy ripple XRP and how to store it off line until I'm ready to sell or use it back there. Happy to discuss if you want? Also how do you hold your bitcoins as the way I'm holding my Ripple is not using a usb but in fact is paper. All the best with your gains on bitcoin, hopefully your not struggling to offload that.Best wishes, Adeal

Duxy786, got a call from my daughter this morning asking me if i'm still trading currency? quite out of the blue... I asked her why and she said what's XRP? so and so has made loads etc etc and all her mates are on it blah blah.. said I'd never heard of it and don't do trades anymore.. any just took a look and there's a massive load of hype over it, don't know what to make of it as I can hardly get my head around crypto currency.. from I can see it's really volatile but large gains are being made as supposedly more big names adopt the technology.. I'm surprised there's not more on ADVFN about it..

Hi all,
Not posted here for years. Have watched somewhat bemusedly at the shenanigans on trading Bitcoin.
Have been watching Ripple ( XRP ).
Decided to have a dabble, two weeks on I am no nearer owning anything.
I don't want to daytrade it, or spreadbet, just own some, forget it, a gamble, prepared to write it off.........
however the only way seems to be through one of the many " brokers" online....all well and good until you look at their reviews, to a man they all have stinking reviews, so who do you trust.
Yes I get the wallet bit, the encrytpted usb etc, but getting started to send your money to what seem to be a complete bunch of shysters and bandits beats me.
For what is extooled as being a peer to peer payment system that cuts the middle man out, i.e. the banks, it seems to be defeated by the very gatekeepers that allow initial access.
Has anyone here cracked it?
Had I been in Bitcoin at the beginning and now wanted to realise my now very considerable profit would I feel comfortable about actually getting the money into a real bank, presumbably only possible through these shadowy non regulated online oiks..............

So am guessing peeps have been watching this rise.

When I first purchased, I thought of it as dead loss having bought at 0.2...it rose to 03. very quickly but fell just as fast to 0.155. This is when I know, the liquidity means this will move up quick. So I went in with a large amount at 0.16 and 0.18.

Ripple is currently sitting at 1.1324... a staggering 7 fold increase.
