No comments on the interim results?

Income fell from £2.8m to 2.4m with about 1/4 of the fall in bonds and fixed interest. As 3/4 of the fall is down to shares' final dividends, the fall income in H2 shouldn't be quite as large - fixed interest will be the same and the fall in smaller interim dividends we get in H2 will be smaller absolutely if it is the same % of a smaller amount. NAV is now nearly 50% fixed interest as share values have fallen, up from about 34% last time. This suggests stockmarket falls now would have less effect and would likely add pressure for an interest rate cut that would probably benefit the fixed interest side immediately. Downside looks slightly better than I thought and upside looks slightly better given an interest rate cut is now priced into debt markets for the UK, probably in the coming winter. There are still questions if slightly more expensive refinancing of the debt in the next 6 months may lead to the dividend for next year not being completely covered but I think the balance of investments looks reasonably placed for recovery next year in the current UK climate of gently easing interest rates. I find the results reassuring.

I'm not sure chartists follow shares like this. The downtrend resistance has broken suggesting these will soon rise to the low 180s.

I don't see gearing as a big worry with the amount of fixed interest in the portfolio. I note second largest shareholding Chesnara increasing their dividend by 15.3% with last week's results.

Thanks, but I was hoping there might be somewhere on the web that you could obtain NMS for various companies? With regard to the Shire(s) shares I have held all three for a number of years now. SHD was showing a good return at one time.....The worst though is SHRS - since 2000 it has returned me aa total of 2%! That includes all dividends paid. Not too handsome.....
I would have bought more SHD for the yield and some hope of growth but the debt/gearing is putting me off in the current climate. So i will hold for now.

garwatts - Your broker should be able to tell you the NMS. I bought online through Selftrade, and had to buy in amounts up to £10,000 to get a quote, but bought in odd numbers, eg 6260 shares
