It would be a great catalyst for the government, in response to huge food waste, to ban food from landfill (as Scotland have) by say 2018. Its highly likely to occur and hopefully our organics division will be as dominant as it is in benelux by then.

Liberum Capital has initiated Shanks (SKS.L) with a 'buy' recommendation, arguing the waste management firm is near poised for a double-digit earnings recovery.

Shanks disposed of its loss-making solid industrial waste operations in a £9.5 million deal with Biffa last week. Liberum's David Brockton said the move was a good one.

'The recent divestment of UK solid waste removes sub-scale loss-making activity,' he said. 'As returns improve following investment in Organics, Hazardous Waste and UK Municipal, we forecast a three-year earnings per share compound annual growth rate of 16%. Self-help, allied with potential for European recovery, prompts us to initiate with a BUY rating and 125p price target.'

Thanks badtime, SKS arrowing higher. Always amuses me how investors prefer to buy an unloved stock when it is safely 30-40% above its low.

Shall we start a year end share price sweepstake?

I am going for £1.15p

Not sure they got the best price for the majority of their UK Solid Waste business. But it is nice to have see SKS at £1, with plenty of time for more gains before year end.

Sensible thing to do as a minority player and always hit more in this area of the business in downturns in the economy - concentration in high tech waste treatment and recycling is the future.Very likely to be another bid for the company some time in the future.

A pretty good update from SKS this morning, given the poor interim results from Augean on Wednesday. Time to start the push to above £1 for the year end.

SKS are on my list of top long term recovery sharers to hold and sit back and enjoy.

Nuff said.

wad collector,

Yes that's a certainty.
SHANKS have been on a great run, up over 24% excluding dividends since the beginning of July. Now heading for levels last seen in 2011. Heading back into the FTSE 250, where a larger number institutional investors and more fund managers can buy the stock.

This unloved, once troubled company is being recycled into a growth stock.
