01/9/2006 11:54 | LONDON (SHARECAST) - Japanese biometrics outfit Secure Design rallied today on news it has acquired 300,000 shares in Stockholm-listed semiconductor fingerprint image sensor manufacturer Fingerprint Cards. The Tokyo-based provider of fingerprint authentication products, the first Japanese company to list on AIM, paid almost £447,500 for the stake which amounts to 2.5% of the total voting power. While the wave of immigrants has helped boost the economy, the government believes a new inflow could create difficulties. The extended measures being prepared are modeled on tough U.S. laws. They will oblige all non-EU nationals to carry biometric ID cards, with details of their residence permits condensed on a special electronic strip.
