21/3/2014 08:12 | Bought in here after float so I thought a bit more information on this announcement might be helpful. Its an area I do a lot of business in. The partnership is more than the usual 'partnerships' that often don't mean much. (They also have an existing arrangement with Webgains.) Firstly, if you want to see the list of retailers for each of the networks: As you will, see they cover a large number of well-known retailers. In fact, a high proportion of mid-top retailers run affiliate schemes through networks. Secondly, affiliate (performance) networks like these have a vested interest in improving conversion rates, because they will benefit financially. This is because the retailers pay commission to all the affiliates for sales. This is done through the network, who also take what is known as an override commission as a fee. So, up the conversion rate and up go the network revenues. On a general note, conversion rates are like interest rates, they don't look much because they are small. But if your business increases its conversion rate from 0.8% to 1.2%, you've just got a 50% increase in sales. So there is a huge incentive for retailers to enable proper mobile. There's also some silly prices for building a mobile enabled shop, using web developers and designers. So an ongoing % of sales business model fee is very attractive and also easy to justify if conversion rates increase. | yump | |
