Hi,

As a stranger to Boots and Alliance Boots, could someone enlighten me as to the reason for the sudden massive share price drop about a year ago. Was this a genuine drop in share price or was it an artefact of the merger? If the latter, how can I correct prior prices to get a longer term comparison?

Goood interim results.

Revenue up 2.9% to £7,039m (H1 05/06: £6,839 million)
Trading profit up 2.7% to £267 million (H1 05/06: £260 million)
Underlying trading profit up 5.1% to £267 million (H1 05/06: £254 million)
Adjusted earnings up 10.3% to £193 million (H1 05/06: £175 million)
Adjusted earnings per share up 10.4% to 20.1 pence (H1 05/06: 18.2 pence)

MIATA is referring to the merger dividend detailed in the 'Scheme Effective' UKREG news of 31 Jul and payable on 3 Oct. The Boots final dividend of 21p is still due on 4 Aug.

No. (Boots went XD the normal final dividend on 31 May 2006).


Dresdner has a "sell" on Alliance Boots, target 690p, as its forward PE ratio is 10% above its sector. Seymour Pierce agree that its PE ratio "looks well ahead of the game", particularly for a company that is likely to have a dividend cut.

XD today of 1.24%, 10p for Boots shareholders and 13.25p for Alliance shareholders.

Alliance Boots will focus on delivering the first £60 mln of cost savings over the
next few months, some analysts are forecasting savings of up to £160 mln.
