Newton Energy Corporation (TSX VENTURE:NTN) (the "Company" or "Newton") announces that, subject to regulatory approval, it has appointed Philip Birch as Chief Executive Officer of the Company. Mr. Birch brings over 30 years international upstream oil and gas technical and business leadership experience to Newton. Mr. Birch has spent over 15 years with Enterprise Oil, where he took leading technical roles in high impact exploration and production projects within the North Sea and internationally. He has subsequently built and sold three successful start-up businesses, providing significant shareholder returns and has acted as an advisor to a number of junior oil companies, including Grove Petroleum and Newton. Mr. Birch is a Fellow of the Geological Society and holds an MBA and an MSc in Petroleum Geology. The Company also announces the resignation of Steve Engwall as the Chief Executive Officer of the Company for personal reasons. The board of directors of the Company would like to thank Mr. Engwall for his services and wish him continued success. Mr. Engwall will continue in his capacity as a director and will also be engaged as a consultant with the Company. The Company would also like to announce the appointment of Merv Chia as Executive Chairman. Mr. Chia will continue to provide business development expertise in his expanded role with the Company.
