It might be tax efficient if the family can avoid IHT; who knows?

No Resolution is being put forward at the AGM to approve the Takeover Panel waiver. This expires the same day; perhaps the Ashfield Concert Party will now buy out the minority interests. Today`s NAV said to be 380.3p.

Unlikely to be tax-efficient for them to sell up either.

I'd be surprised to be honest, but you may be right. Think they are sensibly invested. Where else would you put the cash? Its either that or they are looking to merge with another trust or flip to an external manager. They have a 106 year record to maintain. Why end things now?

The Ashfield family holding over 30% may want to cash out. The Chairman is now 76.
The value of the Consistent Unit Trust business is shown at cost [£2.159m] in the balance sheet. What is its market value today?

Put this on my watchlist and now can't remember why!

The most interesting RNS for years. Maybe the retirement of the manager is the issue here. Let's hope they keep going. 106 years down already. Maybe an external manager is the next step?

Aviva 10% overhang likely cause of discount slippage.

Hello topvest

I looked a bit deeper and liked what I saw so added them to my IT portfolio (along with LWDB which has a similar appeal on filter criterea)

Yes, thanks for the comments. I have read the accounts previously + looked at the two unit trusts. Management of the unit trusts is quite useful as gives the company extra income. I may add more for my pension scheme in due course.

Over the last 30 years I have bought and sold these in my records from 1987 4 times.
I have always had a healthy respect a very conservative Investment trust.
Investments in there own unit trust which is'nt performing to well 32% down last year.
The rest of the portfolio is in Investment Trusts and gilts.
The Investment trusts are a very rounded bunch.
The stock is just a steady plodder but sometimes you can buy it on a big discount to NAV.
They also manage two unit trusts which they get management fees.
I have spoken to the secretary on many occasions and the lady is very courteous.
The directors have been around a long time.
They also pay a decent dividend. the current net yld is 5.295%
Here is the annual report.

I thought I would start a thread for this ultra cautious investment trust. Bought some recently. Everything about this investment trust is a little unusual, including having a 98 year old Chairman. It's record is solid though, if dull. Anyone else got any of these?
