I too am sad to see XTA go. Been out of miners for some time but XTA has offered great trading ops over the years.

IMOP

I see this as an excelent entry point if you have a 5 year plus view. I have bought XTA and Glencore shares along with Eurasian. Up to the point of the merger and XTA share transfer to GLEN I see XTA shares as the better buy as you will get 3.05 Glen shares. Glen=341p = XTA price of 1040 currently 1019.

The combined Company will become a main player in the market and hence rise in share price provided the comodity markets rise, this is open to debate short tearm but one thing is sure it will rise in time.

For me the hottest play at the moment is ENRC low price, new management roles and possible target for a number of companies and div.

yes, tomorrow morning it seems and will hopefully be positive for XTA share price unless GLEN plummets to about 345 on the announcement !

the market has certainly made up it's mind that merger is off as the XTA share price shows at such a wide discount to merger terms - hope they are wrong !

With GLEN and XTA the top risers on the FTSE 100 today
Either;
Gamblers have come out in force
Or;
Those in the know are piling in!!!

With a possible offer of 3-1 needed to close this takeover the XTA price
is geared 3 to 1 to the GLEN price - a very tempting proposition.

My own feeling is that news is going to spill out possibly over the weekend
so anyone not holding tonight might just miss out.

What's it to be?? a tenner on the horses or a flutter on XTA???

DYOR of course

Its a very strange one to call this. Onlookers say XTA price will collapse if merger fails but fundamentals of the company and major shareholders seem pretty happy to hold on as they predict the share price will rise when global economy turns or shows signs of turning.

I feel that unless GLEN makes a change to the offer this deal is dead and buried now. Funnier things have happened and if GLEN really do want XTA they will have to do a deal now as Qatari's will block all future mergers if they buy up 25% of XTA.

Looks like some more gamesmanship will happen in the next few days..

Going to be an interesting ride for the next few weeks now. Looks like neither Glencore or Qatari group are backing down and if anything Qatari group are laying down the gauntlet. Pro's and con's for this seem be :
Pro's
- Qatari group exerting threat to purchase 25% of XTA even if merger doesn't go through which if it doesn't go through is good as it steadys the share price and if it does go through would bean GLEN would have had to have upped their bid
- Qatari move is good for long term share price of XTA and possible longer term takeover
CON's
- GLEN could just walk away or cause mayhem in the boardroom of XTA which would be damaging to XTA
- GLEN could try and poach key staff to Glencore

There is also the line of thought that the next big move the Qatari's will make will be for GLEN as well. This would shake things up even more.

One big soap opera to be honest but interesting to watch how it plays out. My gut feeling is something big will happen.

Cheers....

Am trying to get my head round this deal.

Glencore share price is currently 350 p and Xstrata share price is 910p give or take a few pence each way.

This equates to 2.6 Glencore shares per Xstrata share.

Qataris have said 2.8 Glencore per Xstrata is not good enough. Let us say they would accept 3.0 Glencore shares per Xstrata share.

If the Glencore share price stays around 350p this means Xstrata share price would rise to 1050p or Glencore share price would have to drop to 303p while Xstrata share price stays at 910p.

If Glencore publish really bad results tomorrow conceivably their share price could take a big hit but if that happens would that be such a good thing for Xstrata ?

I note the proposed name change to Glencore Xstrata International plc - I wager that in a short time Xstrata will be dropped from the name !

I think the deal will happen but don't think there will be much in it for Xstrata shareholders.

hope you are right but not so sure . Depends how much takeover premium was built into XTA share price before merger was announced !
