Ten Alps Communications PLC 15 August 2003 Press Release Embargoed until 7am, 15 August 2003 Ten Alps wins new TV and Radio commissions Ten Alps Communications plc ('Ten Alps') today confirms new broadcast commissions which are signed or going into production. This announcement adds detail to the AGM statement of 18 July which referred to the general likelihood of new TV business impacting in the second half of the financial year. TELEVISION The new TV commissions for production companies Ten Alps Broadcasting and Brook Lapping are: * The Sharp End - a six-part live political talk show for BBC2 hosted by Clive Anderson * Pax Americana: two 1-hour films about America and the Middle East for BBC2 by the same team that made the multi-award-winning 'Fall of Milosevic' programme for BBC2 last year (which was described by the Financial Times as 'exhilarating television.') * I Met Osama Bin Laden - a one-hour film for BBC2 * Jeremy Vine Meets - a five part series interviewing rock stars, for BBC1 * Weapons - a 50 minute film under the Innovations Series for Channel 13 (PBS) in the US, with world rights to Carlton International. * Gagging For It - 15 half-hour comedy shows for a significant UK cable and satellite channel. The current production slate was referred to in the preliminary results statement of June 2003. It includes: * The Beauty of Snakes - a 1-hour film shot in high-definition for US channel Animal Planet * A series on British spies for Five RADIO In radio, the new commissions are: * The Smith Lectures with Arthur Smith, going into its 9th series on BBC Radio 2 from January. * The Story of Rolling Stone Magazine for Radio 2, hosted by Cameron Crowe, Hollywood director of Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire * Californication - a profile of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers for BBC Radio 2 * The History of Betting and The History of King Tuts, both for BBC Radio Scotland The current radio slate, as also referred to in the June 2003 results, includes: * Co-production (with the BBC) of Julian Worricker programme for BBC Radio 5 Live on Sunday mornings. * Good Times - The History of Disco, six programmes for BBC Radio 2, hosted by Boy George "We are pleased at the range of production from factual to comedy," said Ten Alps Finance Director Nitil Patel. "But we of course need always to be looking for further work to solidify our financial position, and this period is certainly no exception." "We also continue to focus our interest on possible acquisition activity in the TV sector. We believe, as do most industry commentators, that the recently-passed Communications Bill offers significant opportunities for independent TV production companies. It could well open the way for some consolidation and expansion in the industry." Ten Alps also owns two advertising agencies, which in July reported strong trading for the first three months of the year.
