I wonder why the Administrators are so delayed in replying to emails... maybe they too held the shares :-

Meanwhile, Steve Johnson, the chief executive of Woolworths when it collapsed last year, has been approached by advisers to JJB about becoming the struggling sports retailer's chief executive, the Sunday Independent reports.

Woolies staff to appeal for cash

Around 130 former Woolworths workers in the West Midlands are claiming thousands of pounds following the failure of the High Street giant, it was revealed today.

They are among around 3,000 staff across the country who are making claims against administrators Deloitte.

Unions believe Woolworths administrator Deloitte broke consultation rules when the chain folded just after Christmas.

Each worker will now appeal to an employment tribunal for a "protective award",which could amount to compensation of to up to 13 weeks pay.

Usdaw spokeswoman Cherry Hamilton said today a timescale for the tribunals was not yet clear, but that no resolution was likely to happen before November.

Woolworths branches across the Black Country and Staffordshire fell victim to the collapse during December and January, including outlets in Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Halesowen, West Bromwich, Bloxwich, Wednesbury, Stafford and Rugeley.

John Gorle, Usdaw national officer, said: "Employees gave their all in the final days of trading and were entitled to be treated better than this. Our members have lost out on their contractual severance payments."

Good on them!

Hilco drafted in Steve Johnson as an adviser to the 51 Allied Carpet stores being run by Hilco. This occured around July 23. Sources said if Johnson was a success he could become chairman.
A nice little earner for Mr Johnson.

Tony,

I really don't see shareholders getting anything. Even the administrators aren't doing well trying to sell what were at one time WLW lucrative assets.

The store leases will be handed back to the property ouners a write off.

Naz would have sold as many shares as possible and the remainder total write off as ours are.

It normaly takes administrators 12 months to finalize liquidation at a time when their wallets are full and ours are empty.

Good luck Tony.

Keith.

I had not known this site was available until I asked ADVFN why they had discontinued it a few weeks ago.

Is Davy 99 still around, I miss your knowledge and comments, even if you were criticised by some who had a foul mouth, which was not necessary.

What are the views of the state of play, I know they are worthless in theory, but can anybody comment on the following points :

They still hold about 600 stores that have not been passed on. I know they are empty stores but, one day, they should be worth a fair bit.

When do the administrators report the final situation ?

Is there any hope the shareholders might get anything one day even though Deloittes say there will not be any money left.

What did the Iranian investor do in the end, just write off his stake ?

Any comments would be appreciated, I have(had !) a fair amount tied up in Woolies.

Cheers, Tony.

£3.8m, £22k a day, 173 days....35 weeks work.

And yet still shareholders havent had so much as a statement of affairs, or even a letter/press release from SJ saying what happened and why...and maybe even how he regretted the outcome etc.

Abhorrant behaviour by absolutely all involved IMO.

The poor get poorer - The rich get richer.

These times relate to a transfer of wealth to the wealthy !
