Posted at 25/4/2024 18:15 by essentialinvestor justice, Woolworths was an iconic British brand, as was BHS...(just two examples from a very long list). It's a retailer that is betting very big on the US market. Can SMWH replicate their UK success stateside, is key to the valuation. |
Posted at 25/4/2024 12:48 by essentialinvestor So including lease liabilities, SMWH net debt is now over £1 bn and a chunk of their current borrowing needs to be refinanced in 2026 - and this is currently at an ultra liw ZIRP era rate. |
Posted at 25/4/2024 12:25 by essentialinvestor I've got this on a watch list, however ABF (Primark) is available on 13 X approx, with a net cash position if you net off lease liabilities. Is SMWH on 13 X such a bargain, given significantly higher gearing..?. The North American result looks mediocre, on this read at least. |
Posted at 25/4/2024 09:15 by kangaroo joe Strange market reaction! Is it debt? Has gone up but isn't that normal at the half year? Lots of investment in new stores costs money but bodes well for medium and long term surely? Interim dividend announced - what's not to like? |

Posted at 02/2/2024 09:42 by panache1 Or maybe it was simply the divi being re-invested lol |
Posted at 26/1/2024 07:21 by ayl30 SMWH, rns shows how well this co is managed, a long term holding of mine. Bang on strategy and results coming through. Hopefully share price growth will continue to reflect this. Apart from LfL growth another 100 travel stores will fuel growth in coming year |
Posted at 27/5/2023 13:12 by ayl30 Record number of flights this weekend, all good for SMWH |
Posted at 21/4/2023 11:56 by kalai1 WH Smith posted Interims for the HY to 28th February 2023 yesterday indicating a strong first half performance ahead of expectations. Group revenue was up 41% to £859m, headline profit before tax and non-underlying items was up to £45m (2022: £14m). 60 new stores have opened so far this year including 11 in Canada, the new store pipeline of over 120 stores yet to open includes 60 in North America. The Group is still investing for growth, capex in the current financial year is expected to be around £150m. An interim dividend of 8.1p per share has been announced, the Group is enjoying a strong start to H2. Valuation is a little unhelpful with forward PE ratio at 18.1x and PS ratio at 1,27x both bottom quartile for the Speciality Retailers market. The Group's balance sheet is leveraged with headline net debt of £378m at 28 February 2023. Share price also lacks momentum and has been drifting sideways for 2 years. The business has growth and profits, but SMWH is a share to monitor for the time being......from WealthOracle |
