Vodafone Updates Spanish Broadband Agreement With Orange

LONDON--Vodafone Group PLC (VOD.LN) said Wednesday it updated an agreement with Orange S.A. (ORA.FR) to roll out high-speed fiber broadband across Spain in light of Vodafone's completed acquisition of Spanish cable operator Ono S.A.

The companies unveiled the project, which will see them deliver high-speed internet to a planned three million homes and businesses by September 2015, last March.

Vodafone will provide Orange with wholesale access to a million homes using Ono's network, Vodafone said. In addition, the agreement now includes a way for Vodafone and Orange to provide each other with wholesale access to future fiber broadband deployments in Spain.

"Our partnership with Orange Spain complements our acquisition of Ono, ensuring a highly efficient deployment of high-speed broadband and bringing more competition to the Spanish market," said Vodafone's Chief Executive of Europe, Philipp Humm.

Vodafone shares at 1040 GMT were up 0.95%; Orange shares gained 0.34% .
