But they don't have voting rights or dividend right. Still good for capital gains as long as they hold in treasury

You are forgetting 1.5 billion buyback from the Spanish sale. On July 29 in the AGM I am assuming they will authorize this further buyback as part of the 2 billion buyback for this year. Plus there will be another 2 billion for next year from Italy sale.

It’s a no brainer as the buybacks for this tranche should mean that the share price should be at least in the mid 80s during August. Just look at Lloyds when they introduced buybacks when the share price was around 42p level and now at around 55p levels.
Don’t worry about the short term movements just sit back and take the 5% dividend for now which is quite significant!

Thanks for the correction. Maybe I missed a few RNS. But they still have 468 million euros available to buy from now to Aug15. That is a lot .

1viky,
Your maths is way off...

They've spent about £32 million buying circa 43 million shares back, that's nowhere near the €16.6 you mention.
I think you've missed a few RNSs

As of May 29 they have bought 16.6 million euros.worth of shares at average price of .77 pounds. They have to spend 483 million more in buying shares by August 15. What are they not buying more now before June 6 to avoid paying the dividend? Maybe they plan to increase their buying after the ex date to maintain the SP?

If they can complete 2 billion pounds buy back that is significant that's mean more dividends per share next year
