Andyj,
Why are you so bothered about things here, you have no position?
No one appears to be ramping on this thread. All opinions are surely welcome but we all have to make our own minds up in the end on what to do here.
If you have missed the boat at much lower levels..so what ..not he end of the world don't be bitter and just get over it. Infantile name calling only reflects lack of intellect.
If you are so certain of yourself, have the balls, press the button and short the shares and make a fortune.
If it rises over the medium term the longs will benefit and that's the view I have taken, but quite prepared to read all the meaning full views on the thread and research anything of interest.

As the train hurtles towards the edge of the cliff, the numpties giggle and wiggle their thumbs. Not one person in Vietnam is remotely interested in seven day averages or yesterday's statistics.

The 26th May Vietnam covid statistics were 155 new cases, 7 day average 195. Deaths 1.

What’s been remarkable is how even in India where for a while coronavirus was out of control, the markets have held up or gone up. So even worsening statistics in Vietnam seem unlikely to cause their market to crash.

Also investing via pooled investments like VOF removes single Company risk anyway.

Since andyj lives in Vietnam and, he says, very near to VOF office I suggested a while ago that he put his bear points to the Managers. He did not respond to that suggestion.

Living in a Country does not give us much, if any, investment advantage. There are plenty who live in the UK without the foggiest idea how to invest here successfully! Just look at some of the worst threads on ADVFN (e.g the ones with hundreds of rubbish posts every day)for evidence on that! And the same applies in Vietnam.

exotic,
with respect I am aware of that as it is mentioned prominently on every CFD provider site . If I lost money I would quickly stop or change tactics but I make money on balance every year and sometimes heaps of money using CFDs and occasionally a spreadbet. it is by holding a share that one can lose everything because, with a margin play , it is mentally easier to quickly cut loss if one gets it wrong . Also, quite often paying SD would turn a nice day trade profit into a loss which is why I would only use a share account to buy if NO stamp duty .
If not exercising discipline or sticking to the rules m you can lose money with a CFD or a share account . No difference. But many ways of making money and each to his own as they say ( smile ) .
No idea what andyj is talking about !!

What’s happening tomorrow then? Not much point posting, without saying what the supposed bad news is.

arja, don't forget 70-80% of CFD clients lose money. I think we've discussed this before.

Use a proper broker like Hargreaves Lansdown etc so you don't lose everything on a minor market blip.

If you're UK domiciled, you can buy these in an ISA so there'll be no tax to pay on profits.

I meant I was checking as to why they told me I must pay SD and was not doubting what you said . Have just heard from them and first chap I spoke to was wrong and such
fools should not be giving out false info ! thanks again .

I don't understand why you are checking when the answer is mechanical? It isn't a UK (0.5%) or Ireland (1%) based company so there is no stamp duty. Without stating the obvious I haven't paid stamp duty in any of the accounts in which I hold VOF.

VOF is domiciled in Guernsey so there is no stamp duty to buy the shares even though is has a premium main market listing. VOF was one of the many instruments IG withdrew coverage of on their spread betting book.

I just rang IG Exotic and they told me I do pay Stamp duty on VOF shares which leaves me puzzled ( smile ) . He was no expert though and wonder if he is wrong

thanks exotic and that is very interesting . I have no commission on share purchases for next 6 months which is handy . Any idea why there is NO SD payable or is not registered in UK ?

amt ,
can you please tell me if stamp duty is payable when buying shares in this Trust ?
IG will not allow me to open a long position in VOF or VEIL on my CFD account dam them !they must think it is going higher which is likely as Vietnam indices go to all time highs . ( smile )

Yes the number of cases in Vietnam is still very low compared to UK even though UK is condidered to be low.
Lets hope they contain it.
As we have seen though the link between stock market performance and Covid is counter intuitive. Markets go up as Coronovirus gets worse, up to a point anyway.
With EPS growth of about 40% expected this year Vietnam looks very undervalued to me.

One needs to put the pandemic case in perspective, although for sure any increase in in covid case and the death from covid case is not a good thing. But bear in mind that Vietnam with roughly the population the same size as UK,it has only cases in hundreds, while even now with a lot of vaccinations, the daily case number in UK is still over 2K. Not to mention that India stock market has totally shaken off the worst covid cases around the world. It is the big picture and long term prospect that should be in focus.

I've been watching the Covid stats like a hawk, new cases are exploding several times more than any other period of the pandemic, and unlike the February wave deaths are sadly happening again.

However, we can all see the Vietnam stock market shrugs all this off and continues its upward trend. NAVs continue to rise. So it's a bit disappointing VOF couldn't hold onto gains today since VEIL and VNH are quietly up 1.5% and 3.9% respectively.

VOF lows are rising; it's only a matter of time before 460p becomes the new floor.
